Names of Monasteries 1550 [so titled on upper cover]. List of religious houses in England and Wales in the hand of Sir William Petre, circa 1535, a paper book of 7 folios, endorsed 'Catalogus domorum Religiosorum in Anglia', all conserved [at Essex Record Office, Chelmsford], where in 1957 it formed Essex Record Office Temporary Accession 109, conserved in a modern calf gilt binding containing the original binding (a substantial fragment of a grant, on parchment, of property in Axminster and elsewhere in Devon by Robert Cansfield to Sir John Petre, Lord Petre of Writtle and his son Sir William Petre, 1605-1606), heavily rubbed, narrow folio (430 x 160 mm)QTY: (1)NOTE:Provenance: With a letter from Frederick George [Derick] Emmison (1907–1995), county archivist of Essex, returning the document to W.A. Foyle at Beeleigh Abbey and identifying the author as Sir William Petre and the date as 1535 or 1536, 31 December 1957.The information is arranged into 14 groups of counties: Kent, Surrey and Sussex; Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire; Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset; Wiltshire, Hampshire and Somerset; Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Rutland; Staffordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire; Huntingtonshire and Cambridgeshire; Lincolnshire; Yorkshire; bishopric of Durham; Westmorland, Cumberland and Northumberland; Cheshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire; South Wales; North Wales. Within each of these sections, the houses are grouped by religious order or type – Augustinians, Benedictines, Carthusians, nunneries, Cistercians, Cluniacs, Hospitallers, Gilbertines and Premonstratensians. Each such list is headed with houses identified as ‘above 300 marks per annum’.The list closes with the Bonhommes of Ashridge and Edgington, St John [of] Jerusalem for the Knights of Rhodes, preceptories ‘commonly called the commanderies of the Knights of St John Jerusalem’, ‘all the friar houses in England whereof a great number have fair possession ’, all the colleges in England amounting to [blank], all the chantries in England being in number [blank], the possessions of the bishoprics in the realm abated [blank].The identification of the houses worth over 300 marks (£200) a year places the text between Valor Ecclesiasticus, the valuation of monasteries compiled by the summer of 1535, and February 1536 when parliament passed the Suppression of Religious Houses Act (27 Hen. VIII c. 28), which provided for the dissolution of houses with a net income of less than £200 a year. It also demonstrates that as early as 1535, the dissolution not only of monasteries but of colleges and chantries was contemplated, a process not achieved until 1547, and that even the secular episcopal estate had come under the official eye. The principal official responsible for this process between 1535 and 1540 was Sir William Petre (1505/6–1572).Petre was the son of a prosperous Devon cattle farmer and tanner. He entered Oxford as a law student in 1519 and was admitted fellow of All Souls in 1523, retaining this place until 1535 and serving as law bursar in 1528/9. He graduated bachelor in both laws on 2 July 1526, and during 1527 and 1528 he practised in the Oxford chancellor’s court. He is believed to have been made tutor to Sir Thomas Boleyn’s son George (brother of Anne). Through this connection, supposedly, he came to Henry VIII’s notice, and was one of the junior counsel representing the king in his matrimonial suit before the legatine court at Blackfriars (May–July 1529). In the course of 1533 he began work as a chancery clerk.During the summer of 1535 Petre submitted proposals for the reorganization of ecclesiastical jurisdiction under the crown, and from October he presided over Cromwell’s vice-gerential court. Between 1535 and 1540 Petre was principally occupied with the visitation and dissolution of religious houses, tasks he performed with efficiency and fairness, avoiding the unsavoury reputation of his fellow commissioners. Nevertheless he used his position to amass a substantial landholding, mainly in his native Devon and in Essex. By 1540 he had a rent-roll in excess of £500. On 15 December 1539, following the dissolution of Barking Abbey, he received a grant of the property from the crown. Here he built his seat, Ingatestone Hall. His family’s firm adherence to the Catholic religion largely impeded his heirs from following the path of royal and public service which he had himself so successfully negotiated, which his heirs still occupy.

Over the costume they wear a kind of skirt in fabrics of feminine taste and a thick dance belt (muia) applied over the hips, decorated with beads and bells, a belt that is exclusive to women, with the purpose of highlighting the lively movement. from the hips. The choreography of the masked man, who is a professional dancer, is characterized by mime, gestures and woman's steps, in which the voluptuous movement of the hips predominates. In addition to representing Woman, the feminine genius of dance, grace and beauty, it can also represent a spell (Wanga) «Kaponya Ka Pwó» [...] of terrible effects. Therefore, the heir by matrilineal descent, the nephew, the eldest son of the eldest sister residing in the village (here the avunculocal rule is observed), must take the mask and the garment, wrap them in cloth and leaves, take them to a secluded spot in the forest, usually close to a river bank, dig a deep hole and bury them carefully. When he deposits the mask at the bottom of the hole and starts to pour earth over it to cover it, he utters the following words: “Go and stay with my uncle, whose companion you are. He was a great dancer thanks to you and that's why you should accompany him. I'm going to make another mask to continue my uncle's work, which will certainly help me to be as good as he was»). Ca. 1368-1644 AD, or later.A pottery mingqi, portraying a horse and a valiant warrior rider adorning its back. The sculpture exhibits the horse standing atop an integral and level base, assuming an alert pose that exudes a sense of readiness and dynamism. The horse's finely arranged mane, glazed in a serene pale blue pigment, accentuates the gracefulness of its form, while meticulous attention to detail is evident in the rendering of its hooves and tail, elegantly adorned in a contrasting black hue. The head of the horse, executed with remarkable naturalism, captivates with its commanding features. Large eyes, a pronounced snout, and a slightly parted mouth imbue the sculpture with a lifelike essence. To complement the equestrian portrayal, the bridle, saddle, and accompanying trappings are glazed in blue and brown. The warrior rider is equipped with a complete suit of armor, including a helmet. It epitomizes the martial prowess and valor associated with the era. The intricate detailing of the armor highlights the artisan's dedication to precision and authenticity, capturing the essence of Ming Dynasty military attire. With an air of authority, the warrior clasps a mace with a long handle to his left side, symbolizing both his preparedness for battle. Mingqi represents a distinct class of funerary artifacts in Chinese culture, specifically designed to accompany and assist the deceased in the spiritual realm. These objects, meticulously crafted with precision, encompassed a wide array of pottery figures and miniature replicas of various items, animals, or scenes. Serving as both a reflection of the deceased's social standing and a symbolic representation of cultural beliefs, mingqi held significant value in conveying material wealth and spiritual support in the afterlife within the context of ancient Chinese burial practices. 1978 Matra Simca Bagheera XTransmission: manualMileage:60120The Matra Bagheera was built by the automotive division of the French engineering group Matra in co-operation with Simca. Marketed as the Matra-Simca Bagheera until its final year of production, when its designation was changed to the Talbot-Matra Bagheera following Chrysler Europe's demise and subsequent takeover by PSA. Chrysler-Simca's planners also wanted a car with more than just two seats. Guédon agreed, but he was also not satisfied with the 2+2 arrangement used in the M530, feeling that the rear seats were too small to be really useful. The solution came to him on a lengthy trip he took in a Ford Taunus station wagon with two colleagues. The back of the car was so full that the travellers sat three across in the front of the car. The Bagheera was unveiled to the press at an event held at Lake Annecy on April 14th 1973. The public release of the car took place at the 1973 24 Heures du Mans. At the same time Simca had arranged to have 500 yellow Bagheeras available at their dealers across France. Towards the end of 1973, production levels had reached 65 cars per day.First registered on 3rd December 1982, this original and rare right hand drive conversion, carried out by Walchry Motors of Walton-on-Thames (official Peugeot Talbot dealers), is one of only 57 cars that were built by Walchry, and this example is believed to be one of only four remaining. Subject to a complete restoration and rebuild from 2014-2020, the car was completely stripped, the chassis fully plated, welded and coated. The composite bodywork has been repainted to a very high standard and mechanical components have been restored or replaced as necessary. The interior has been retrimmed to an equally high standard in black leather, with a black suede headlining. This has left the structure of the car as better than new and fully protected against the elements with full chassis rust proofing. The restoration has been finished off with bespoke Minilite-style alloy wheels. The history file boasts detailed photos of the restoration and upon purchase an extensive spares package is also available including the original alloy wheels and many body panels with collection near London. the odometer is in kms reading 98,363 which equates to just 60,120 miles. The standard electric windows have been enhanced with the addition of remote central locking and immobiliser. The engine has been upgraded to a more modern and reliable Peugeot EW12 2.2 unit, effectively a modern version of the 2.2 engine fitted to the Bagheera's successor, the Murena. Whilst in need of some mechanical fettling to the running and gear change to finish, the car now has a modern level of performance to suit the considerable style offered by this rare and beautiful three-seater. Registered as historic with the DVLA, so MoT and tax exempt, this three-seater is rarer than the Mclaren F1 so very collectable, rare and certainly a conversation starter.Guide Price £12,000-£17,000Spares parts available as follows which can be collected from London post sale;Front and rear bumpersBoth doorsRear glass, both sides,Rear light lensesUndertraysFuel tankRare original wheelsOriginal steering wheelVarious other bits, mostly exterior items

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Transmission: manualMileage:65The Ford Mustang was the brainchild of Lee Iacocca and was branded as the first 'Pony Car', it was born out of a need to compete with the flood of European sports cars coming into the USA in the sixties. The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9th 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on April 17th 1964. The Mustang was only available as a hardtop coupé and convertible until September 1964, it was the fastback that drew the interest of Carroll Shelby which extended the iconic reach of the Ford Mustang and firmly put it into the category of motoring legends. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and became a popular car to customise, from engine upgrades to racing stripes, no two Mustangs are often found the same. Ford kept the Mustang relatively cheap with a list price of $2,368, making the car extremely popular. This Mustang is an extremely desirable manual transmission fastback, painted in stunning Ivy Green, which was only available on the 1965 model year. The car was manufactured in Dearborn Michigan in May 1965 and fitted with the optional C-code 200bhp Windsor 289ci V8. The car was also specified with a limited-slip-differential and the special handling package. The original owner of the car was so fond of it that they kept it until circa 2003. The car arrived in the UK in 2004 and is now with only its second owner on UK shores, making it a three-owner car from new. The engine was rebuilt in 1983, only around 7,000 miles ago, some bodywork was also carried out at the same time. The gearbox was rebuilt less than 3,000 miles ago, the clutch and flywheel were also both replaced around the same time. New rear shocks were fitted in 2021 and the tyres were upgraded to modern radials in 2022, with geometry adjusted at the same time to suit. The general impression of this Mustang is one that suggests a large amount of originality, the car is nicely patinated and is perfect to be used and enjoyed as it sits, without the fear of ruining a box fresh show quality restored example. The only modification on the car, is the set of Minilite wheels, except for that, the car is completely standard throughout.
