VIERGE A L’ENFANT. Balkans, vers 1700. Tempera sur bois, manque d’une partie de l’icône et repeints. 29 x 16,5 cm. Cette Mère de Dieu suit le modèle de l`Hodighitria "la conductrice". Elle indique de la main l’Enfant qu’elle porte pour aller vers Dieu, il faut passer par le Christ. Bien qu’il manque une partie du bois de l’icône, la Vierge et l’Enfant nous interpellent de leur doux regard.
LA TRANSFIGURATION DU SEIGNEUR. Grèce, vers 1700. Tempera sur bois, manques, usures et restaurations. 32 x 25,5 cm. Cette fête fut célébrée dès le VIIIème siècle. L’icône suit fidèlement le texte de l’Evangile. Sa composition très équilibrée, montre à la partie médiane, la montée du Christ avec Pierre, Jacques et Jean et leur descente. A la partie supérieure, le Christ Transfiguré est entouré d’Elie et de Moïse tandis qu’en bas Pierre, Jacques et Jean sont renversés par la lumière de Dieu au pied de la montagne.
A man`s very heavy brown and oatmeal tweed coat labelled Aquascutum By Appt. Late King George V and Prince of Wales 1930-36. Sold by Pritchards Breeches Maker. High town. Hereford. Lining A/F. Sold with a blue and brown striped suit labelled Lebole with applied braid to create Edwardian effect (2).
A saffron yellow 18th century style boy`s coat, raspberry silk velvet romper suit with gold braid, blue wool boys sailor suit with L.H. Nathan, Haymarket London label, other outfits by Nathan, striped trousers with fall front 1880-1930. Provenance: Mainly from the dressing up box owned by Lady Violet Benson daughter of the 8th Duke of Rutland, including some pageboy items (26 items).
A George III gentleman`s suit of midnight blue facecloth, the breeches with fall front and button fastening, the jacket with wigtail pouch, together with a waistcoat, all having cut steel buttons, the jacket and waistcoat with lace trimming. Provenance: Lot 171 in Phillips Period Costume, Couture, 1920s & 1930s Dresses, Linen & Lace sale, Thursday 28 November 1985, and reputed to have been in the family of the actor David Garrick.

An original drawing of a man lying on a beach, pen & ink cartoon (with pencilled grid for enlarging), showing a gentleman in a suit and bowler hat reclining on a pebbly beach, with a cigarette in his mouth, beside a large notice which states ‘I dont buy shells, never eat buns & don’t want a boat’, initialled lower left, 12 x 17cm (4.75 x 6.75ins), framed and glazed (1).
