DURHAM. Gibside and the Blakiston family. Memorandum book March 1683/4 to 1704, about 270pp folio (including some blanks). Records receipts and disbursements relating to Gibside and the family, the first years carefully written with detailed entries, later years less so. Also included is a record of various agreements relating to land and occasionally of family events. Many payments are made to Lady Blakiston and sister Blakiston and there is much household and personal expenditure, visits to Durham, Newcastle and London etc. “(August 1703) I return to this place from Streatham... please find my dear wife was this day .... at 4.15 in the afternoon delivered of a daughter” “given my girl for use of the house etc 16-0-0”. “given to the poor at Whickham 0-2-6” “spent at Durham sessions 1-2-6” “pd Mr Hardiman, Taylor... for five yards of fine cloth for my new suit 4-12-6” “pd ye cook by my wife in part for wages due 3-0-0” “pd Mr Hornsey, gliser, in full for glising, Gibside House 1-16-0” and many hundred similar entries. A few items loosely inserted. Vellum covers, some pages loose in binding, some dustmarking and dogearing; but completely legible.

Brown hair wig, sailors cap, sporting a check suit and bow tie. 4ft high
2 rare Timpo empty trade boxes, for 12 railway passenger type No 8017; and Railway staff type No 8000; 2 figures of Passengers gent with grey suit carrying suitcase and coat, and man in blue blazer, leg crossed, leaning on walking stick, both by Timpo. Boxes plain brown card, splits to one lid, otherwise minor age wear. Figures GC to VGC some rubs.

A mid to late Victorian ladies two piece day suit in green and black stripe with full skirt and fitted jacket all detailed with applied black trimmings, together with a similar style floral suit, a late Victorian black shoulder cape with floral pattern to the weave and a plain black full skirt.

*Andersen (Hans Christian, 1805-75). An unusual full-length plastercast model of Andersen, prob. late 19th c., plastercast head with painted brown hair and closed eyes in good condition, wearing a cloth wing collar shirt with cravat, linen suit and cloak, white leather gloves hidden beneath cloak, black painted plaster shoes, the shoes chipped and the (originally black) material now largely bleached out and frayed with some loss to collar, 41 x 12 x 9 cm, with Andersen's sepia ink autograph signature on a stitched red and white linen strip loosely pinned to his lapel Possibly a commemorative piece made at the time of his death.
