GEORGE V: (1865-1936) King of the United Kingdom 1910-36. A.L.S., George, three pages, 8vo, Plymouth, n.d. (July 1891), to Windham, on the printed stationery of H.M.S. Thrush. The Prince thanks his correspondent for their note and remarks 'I am so glad the Revelstokes are there & especially John Baring who is a great friend of mine.' He continues 'All your arrangements will do first rate, I shall be ready for you….I shall be delighted to dine there & sleep the night & you must do the same & we will drive back together on Monday morning getting here about noon if that will suit you.' VG In May 1890 Prince George had taken command of the 1st Class gunboat H.M.S. Thrush, which he anchored at Plymouth on 26th July 1891. Less than a month later, on 24th August, he was promoted to Commander in the Royal Navy.

Sold with a typewritten letter from Dempsey to a Mr Oxley of Ohio regarding finishing in the first ten in a qualifying round to win the ‘Jack Dempsey Cup’. The letter dated 18th August 1924. G
