A good interesting Third Reich Wireless Operator's Flugbuch, to Hermann Belz, containing a total of 505 entries between June 1939 and May 1944, of which 272 are operational sorties, including 35 to United Kingdom (London, Liverpool, Hull, Glasgow, Newcastle), some of which were "Special Missions", 15 to Eastern Europe and Egypt, and 222 to Russia; interesting entries include plane shot down by Russian infantry behind enemy lines, resulting in a 65km march to reach his own lines, crash landing due to a direct hit, another crash landing with severely injured pilot and another crew member killed, etc. Most of these missions were accomplished in He IIIs,although early entries include Ju 52, Ju 86 and Do 17. With a post card size photograph of Belz wearing flying suit, and a typewritten short biography and copies of awards list showing that he was entitled to various decorations including German Cross and Goblet of Honour. Man Ray, 1890-1976, INDESTRUCTIBLE OBJECT, inscribed Man Ray and numbered 40/100 on the case; titled and inscribed 1923-1965 on a plaque attached to the metronome lid, readymade wooden metronome with metal paper-clip and photographic eye, height: 21.5cm., 8.5in. Man Ray's celebrated object of a metronome with a photographic eye affixed to its swinging arm was first created in 1923 and titled Object to be Destroyed. In 1932, the artist made an ink drawing of the object with the following inscription on the reverse: "Cut out the eye from the photograph of one who has been loved but is seen no more. Attach the eye to the pendulum of a metronome and regulate the weight to suit the tempo desired. Keep going to the limit of endurance. With a hammer well aimed, try to destroy the whole at a single blow" (Man Ray, Self-Portrait, Boston, 1963, pp. 306-7 in the 1988 edition).
