Removed from the room where it had been since the 18th century, each strip was cleaned and transposed onto a wooden frame. Having a chinoiserie in your home was a sign of good taste and perfection; it could be painted on woodwork, silk or paper. It was the middle of the 18th century, and trade with China and Europe was very strong, with pieces being made especially for the European market. The trading posts and the Compagnie des Indes transported these coveted works of art, including porcelain, lacquer panels and silk, to the Netherlands, England and France. Although the French sovereigns, the natural protectors of French manufactures, artists and craftsmen, could not openly display their taste for China in the state flats of Versailles, many Chinese or Chinese-style works were displayed in their 'appartements intérieurs' or in their favourite country residences. Louis XV, for example, filled the Château de Choisy, refurbished for him by Gabriel from 1740 onwards, with furniture in Far Eastern lacquer or decorated with varnish, as well as Chinese porcelain, fabrics and wallpaper.France and Holland sent painted scrolls all over Europe to meet demand; we know, for example, that Louise-Elisabeth, daughter of Louis XV and wife of the Duke of Parma, wanted to create Chinese-style rooms at the Reggia in Colorno, so she travelled to Paris three times to acquire Chinese wallpaper and bring it back to Colorno, along with many other items and gifts from her father. These still look good today, although they have been stripped of the objects that accompanied them in Colorno's Chinese room, which ended up in the various Savoy residences between Piedmont and Rome after Italian Unity. What's more, these wallpapers were often reworked to suit European tastes, paving the way for local imitations all over Europe.Commenting on the breakfasts given by Madame de Montaigu, Madame du Bocage wrote that it was very pleasant to invite one's neighbours and friends to a room lined with Peking paper and furnished with Chinese objects. For further reading on the subject see: Emile de Bruijn, Chinese Wallpaper in Britain and Ireland (2018).Madeleine Jarry, Chinoiserie Le rayonnement du goût chinois sur les arts décoratifs des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles (1981)Dawn Jaconson, Chinoiserie (1993)This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: WW Lot is located in the Bonhams Warehouse and will only be available for collection from this location. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Lot 957

17th Century Continental School Portrait of Philip II of Spain, wearing Armour O.O.C., 125cms x 100cms (49'' x 39''), in ornate gilt frame. Provenance:  Kilcooley Abbey, purchased at Mealys 2008.  Painted in oil on canvas, this portrait almost certainly depicts Philip II, who was King of Spain and the Spanish Empire from 1556 until his death in 1598. It is likely a seventeenth century version of a portrait painted in the 1540’s by a Netherlandish artist such as Antonis Mor, although the architectural setting is more typical of the seventeenth century. The present work compares closely with other portraits depicting Philip II, when still a prince. With his dark hair, beard and moustache, he is depicted as a handsome young man, eyes fixed on the viewer and lips pursed. He wears a full suit of armour, with lace ruff collar and holding a baton. His left hand is poised above the pommel of a sword. When compared with other portraits of Philip, this example is unusual in that the suit of armour is plain and functional: most other portraits depict him wearing armour that is heavily ornamented, gilded and engraved. The setting is severe and architectural, with the prince resting his right arm on the plinth of a large classical column. In the background, a siege is in progress, with the ramparts of a city visible amidst plumes of smoke and cannon fire. This may be the Siege of Perpignan, which took place in 1542, and at which the Prince was present, although not directly involved in the action. The siege saw the Spanish, led by the Duke of Alba, defeat the French forces under the Dauphin of France. A monarch remembered both for his command of a growing Spanish Empire, and for his fixed views on religious conformity, Philip II was born in Valladolid in 1527, the son of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal. After becoming King, he ruled over an empire that stretched from South America to the Philippines-the group of islands that was named after him. As a result of his marriage to Mary Tudor, he was also, briefly, King of England. Philip was committed to defending the Catholic faith, and waged war on both Protestants and the Ottoman empire. The Armada he sent to invade England in 1588 was largely destroyed by storms at sea. Dr. Peter Murray, 2023

Fully rebuilt with a new chassis and extensively upgraded, this Series IIA is really rather special. Dating from April 1966, George is a Series IIA that has been fully restored and upgraded in current ownership since 2014. The 'story of George' runs to several thousand words, far too much to even paraphrase here, but our consignor, Stacey will be happy to send interested parties a copy of this charming story by email.A small extract in our vendor’s words;'I needed something that would keep me more active than normal, so my wife gave me the green light to find a classic Land Rover, but she had one condition that it must have the headlights in the centre panel. For me, I added that I wanted a petrol engine and SWB and that was it, so other than these requirements I really didn’t have a clue what to look for. So the search began, mainly looking around Ebay, I did see a couple of vehicles around my budget and then I spotted George, he was taxed and MOT’d for six months which meant I could run him and get an idea of what needed doing.A few days later, I made the train journey down to Evesham to collect George with the intention of driving back to Stoke, and made sure I had sufficient tools to cover any basic repairs should any issues come up during the drive back. When I arrived, George was standing on the drive in all his glory, he’d already been fitted with parabolic springs and Koni shocks some time back by a previous owner, the door tops were pretty much shot but usable for now, they would need replacing along with the rear tail gate and cat flap which had been joined together to make a type of safari door – not nice for sure. The sale was agreed and the journey home commenced. George was running a Weber Carburettor which was being a little temperamental on the journey home, but after a few tweaks it calmed down and the rest of the trip was relatively pain free – well as best you can expect from a Land Rover. Once home I had time to make a full assessment of what I needed to replaced right away to use up the remaining six months of Tax and MOT, during this time I could plan my re-build, it was always my intention to replace the chassis and I think after the strip down I was justified in that decision.'The rest of the story is hugely detailed and fascinating. We recommend for anyone interested to come and view George in all his glory - the handsome, restored example of the rugged and iconic 4 x 4, presenting in excellent condition throughout, making the perfect usable off-road companion, a brilliant show car or a charming addition to any collection, and these are just some of the reasons why George is so special.Standard components – either restored or replaced:Chassis – replaced in February 2015 using a Richards Replica Chassis Suffix CEngine – original engine correct date, short block refurbished +0.40 pistons, standard crank (bearings replaced) and cam, timing chain, oil pump, water pump and petrol pump all replaced.Axle – both front and rear are originals and date correct 1966 – Refurbished using nylon coating. Lot 113

Known as 'SportLine Zero', this 350 SL has been converted to fully electric propulsion by marque specialists, SLSHOP. Fully rebuilt from the ground upwards with an investment of nearly £200,000. The story begins when SCC 107K arrived at SLSHOP ready for retirement, minus its engine and with a faulty gearbox, and seemed an ideal candidate to be rebuilt as an electrically-powered classic Mercedes, a project that was already under consideration by the innovative team at the SLSHOP. The car was then completely stripped and rebuilt with the utmost attention to detail, with every aspect of the change carefully planned to retain the handling characteristics of the standard version. Unlike a conventionally designed car, with the substantial weight of the engine and gearbox positioned in the middle at the front, the team were comparatively free to position the heavy components where they wanted to and, using corner-weight scales during construction, it was possible to position the batteries and heavy electrical components so the weight was reasonably divided between all four quarters of the SL. Consequently, a dynamic balance was achieved resulting in the safe predictable handling for which the R107 was renowned. The electrics and running gear are discretely hidden, and there are no clues to the car's transformation other than the OAT gauge which now displays battery charge capacity, the non-standard gear selector and a charging plug beneath the fuel flap. Mounted front and rear are 53kWh of Tesla batteries, powering a 150bhp 213lb/ft electric motor, more than enough for an SL, and offering a range of 150 miles. Acceleration is dialled down at low speeds to closely match that of the petrol-engined version, the 0-60 time is on a par with that of the original, and performance can be adjusted to suit the owner. Make no mistake, this is a quick and capable car, boasting superior SportLine suspension and brakes. Writing in The Daily Telegraph in April 2020, Quentin Wilson was one of the first motoring journalists to drive the SportLine Zero: 'This electric SL can really shift... the sheer ingenuity of engineering this old Merc to drive so well on battery power eclipsed my nostalgia for its traditional powerplant... I was repeatedly struck at how captivating it felt. What's also quickly apparent is how natural it all feels, like the SL should have always been powered like this.'The Sportline has been owned by our vendor, a well-known private Collector, for a while and whilst in his care, has been professionally valeted every month, accruing less than 500 miles since his purchase. A modern take on a classic look, this electric SL is both a showstopper and Concours d'Elegance winner, a fascinating combination of modern technology and old-fashioned craftsmanship. It's supplied with its V5C and is UK-registered as an Electric Vehicle. For city-centre driving, it can be charged from an EV point or three-pin plug from a domestic supply and, encouragingly, it’s worth noting that the SLSHOP and Electric Classic Cars are able to offer ongoing maintenance support for the new owner of this fabulous creation. Come along and have a glimpse of the future.Specification Make: MERCEDES Model: R107 SL EV Year: 1975 Chassis Number: 10704322011980 Registration Number: SCC 107K Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 220000 KM Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 139

The defining RS of its era with all the right ingredients, just 27,000 miles, the Custom Pack, RSOC ownership history and in superb condition.   The Escort RS Turbo Series 1 was specifically developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Engineering team to set new standards in 'Group N' and 'Group A' motorsport events, and was quickly dubbed 'the car to beat'. Ford initially planned to build 5,000 examples, the minimum number required for Homologation in 'Group A', however a total of 8,604 were built due to increased demand. The car was greeted with huge enthusiasm and was only sold through official Rallye Sport dealers. The much-revered Series 1 cars utilised a 1,600cc CVH unit modified to suit the higher loads and the application of a turbocharger. Computerised fuel-injection and state-of-the-art engine management (in 1986) incorporating boost control resulted in a healthy 132bhp and offered reasonably lag-free acceleration with 0-62mph, taking 8.2 seconds on the way to around 125mph. It was the first front-wheel drive road car in the world to use a compact viscous-coupling design LSD instead of a normal mechanical LSD, which greatly improved cornering and drivability.Aesthetically, the RS Turbo was given a distinctive sporty appearance with a body-coloured front grille, bumpers and aerodynamic aids. Unusually, there was only one choice of finish, Diamond White, and the purposeful interior was trimmed in a combination of Monza and Cashmere fabrics and Recaro LS bucket seats were fitted as standard. The car presented here is a 1985 Escort RS Turbo Custom S1, originally supplied new through the well-established Ford dealership Bryan Brothers Ltd. of Bristol (window stickers and a tax disc holder still testify) and came fitted with the factory-specified ‘Custom Pack’ which included electric windows, central locking, tilt/slide glass sunroof and opening rear quarter windows. It has covered just 27,019 miles from new and was purchased by our vendor from his friend back in 2013.Over the years, it has been owned and enjoyed by members of the RS Owners Club, benefiting from the care and attention which comes with this sort of dutiful ownership. In 2010, it was inspected by the RSOC who, based on its condition and information supplied, wrote a letter to say that its (then) mileage of 25,953 miles was wholly commensurate with its original condition. Our vendor tells us 'There have never been any repairs or welding on the car due to corrosion/rot, it’s all extremely solid, as it has always been very well-undersealed. In recent years, the car had a full/professional respray (being stripped to the bare shell in preparation). I also had all the running gear and suspension components painted (as they were just starting to look a bit tired) and I wanted it all clean and tidy. You can see on the suspension arms that they are not all marled from existing corrosion pits, they are all original just repainted. It still has the original S1 shocks!'This, now highly collectable, RS is accompanied by a decent history file and, remarkably, its original Michelin MXV 195/50 VR15 tyres, exhaust and plug leads, plus both keys and its original/complete bookpack. This car has obviously always been very well-maintained, stored to the highest standards and used infrequently, definitely one for the collector!Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS TURBO S1 Year: 1985 Chassis Number: WF0BXXGCABFJ08739 Registration Number: B460 XHU Transmission: Manual Engine Number: FJ08739 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 27019 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 140

**Please note the car has recieved a fresh MOT valid until 16th November 2024.** A C16 UK-supplied Series 2 Cabriolet with 20,151 miles from new and in commensurate condition. In 1989, the second series of the 944 was introduced, powered by a 210bhp normally aspirated double-overhead-cam 16-valve 3-litre version of the 944S engine, which was the largest four-cylinder engine in production at the time. The 944 S2 also benefited from a revised transmission and the gearing was tweaked to better suit the torque and peak power characteristics of the 3-litre M44/41 powerplant. The S2 had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the 944 Turbo model and this was the first example of the use of an integrated front bumper, where the bumper and bonnet profiles would merge smoothly with the valance, a design feature that has only now seen widespread adoption on production cars from the early 1990s. In 1989, Porsche released the 944 S2 Cabriolet that featured a cabriolet body built by the ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg in Germany, creating a very good looking car with excellent dynamic qualities that was rewarding to drive and well-received by the motoring press. This striking 944 S2 Cabriolet has covered just 20,151 miles from new with keepers who were evidently fastidious and caring, as is demonstrated by the car's proud stance and impressive appearance. Finished in Crystal Silver Metallic with Midnight Blue leather, a dark blue hood and smart polished alloys, its presentation is totally commensurate with its very low-mileage. We are informed it has always been garaged and maintained to the highest standards as evidenced by the car's confidence inspiring history file, showcasing service records and invoices in its bespoke leather wallet, including the service manuals and previous MOT Certificates. A fresh MOT will be in place by the time of the sale.It has formed part of a significant collection of 1980s and 1990s Porsches for the last few years and has only been used lightly, so in preparation for the sale, it has received a full service at Porsche Wolverhampton including all fluids and the all-important cambelt change. Benefitting the car by tastefully bringing it up to modern standards, this 944 has had a new Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) SatNav & DAB head unit fitted and it's supplied with a new Porsche indoor car cover.Built in the last year of 944 production, there can't be many 944 Cabriolets with mileage as low as this. The values of good 911s appear to have stabilised recently, however asking prices for quality 944s, 928s, and 968s continue to firm, so now is as good a time as any to join the party, and there’s surely not a better cared-for example out there, especially in such a classic colour combination with a detailed history.SpecificationMake: PORSCHEModel: 944 S2Year: 1991Chassis Number: WP0ZZZ94ZLN432079Registration Number: H116 ECWTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 42L07324Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 20151 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Dark Blue LeatherClick here for more details and images

A good example of the more focused Series 1, showing just 32,962 miles. The odometer shows just 32,962 miles and the car presents nicely overall. Indeed, the vendor describes it as 'an honest, usable car that’s one for the enthusiast to use and enjoy'. Offered with a UK V5C, its history file and a fresh MOT in time for the sale, this smart example appears to offer superb value, and we encourage all interested parties to come and see the car for themselves at the NEC.With Sierras, Escorts and now the inevitable Focus all seeing substantial increases in value in recent years, the market for Performance Fords from this period never seems to cool down, This lovely example would be equally at home within any collection of nostalgic 1980s 'rocket-ships', or being driven and enjoyed as all sporting cars should be.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS TURBO Year: 1985 Chassis Number: WF0BXXGCABFJ08745 Registration Number: B482 WBP Transmission: Manual Engine Number: FJ08745 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 32962 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Each car is special, whether it's the vastly improved 1973 Ford Escort, the last production Sierra RS Cosworth showing more than 21,000 miles, the fabulous 12,000km 'Group N' Escort Cosworth, the well-maintained Clio V6, the one-owner, low-mileage Evo VI GSR to, perhaps, the best 2005 Honda Civic Type R on the market.Stuart Turner of Ford was the leading light in pushing through the Ford Escort Rally program in the 1990s. Previously, the Sierra Cosworth had maintained a competitive presence in world rallying but a new genre of rally cars was emerging. The brief now called for a smaller, lighter car to challenge the rapidly emerging cars from Japan. Indeed, Turner had cited that nearly a third of all cars entered in a previous national rally were Japanese in order to encourage the Ford decision-makers in Detroit to 'sign off' the Escort Cosworth rally program. They still took some robust persuading, as the production model was only available in front wheel drive, and the RS Escort was going to be far removed from the production item destined for the 'masses'. Worse still, production would have to be outsourced to Karmann, Germany. Two major considerations swayed Ford's decision to go ahead, firstly the new Escort was being labeled 'rather bland' by the press and needed a 'halo/hero car' and secondly the drivetrain for the new rally car was the well-proven, world-beater system from the Sierra Cosworth. Turner's plan had been to produce a 'pizza' rally car; Sierra Cosworth base with an Escort body-shell topping. A prototype was entered in a somewhat obscure rally in Spain, it won, and Ford's Marketing machine quickly seized the opportunity with an advertising campaign that meant they could only continue wholesale with the program, spawning the mantra, 'Everything we do is driven by you'. On its WRC debut 1993 Monte Carlo Rally, the RS Escorts of Miki Biasion and Francois Delacour led until the final stages. It was a success and provided Ford with ten WRC victories from 1993 - 1997 for Miki Biasion, Francois Delacour, Franco Cunico, Tommi Mäkinen and Carlos Sainz.Joining the Cheshire Collection when purchased from us in 2014 is this Ford Escort Cosworth 'Group N' Rally Car, built by R&M Motorsport in Frankfurt from a trimmed, LHD 909 Bodyshell in March 1995. It was brought into the UK and used by Neil Thompson of Performance Parts in Luton under the guise of its German number plate. In 1997, it was sold to its previous keeper and registered in the UK on a 'Q' plate and used in a Rally Sprint and RSOC shows. Purchased by our previous owner in 2011 and recommissioned for stage rallying with upgrades that then included; new fuel lines, installation of an FIA fuel drain, FIA-approved Motordrive fibreglass seats and FIA belts (which are currently out of date) replaced cambelt, current-spec restrictor to the turbo fitted, and professionally set up to suit by Dave Griffiths of InterPro producing 297bhp and 317ft/lb at the time.Used as a show car, it competed in the 2011 Regency Stages Tarmacadam Rally. Specification includes; Hemmerle matter cage, anti-lag, water-injection, 4:4 diff, LSD front and rear, 'Group N' sport gearbox, bonnet lamp pod, Kevlar guards, homologated 'Group N' alloys with Pirelli P Zero road tyres, OZ 'Group A' alloys with Dunlop C03 Slicks, Morette headlight conversion, small spares package. Presented with former Ford Motorsport 'Group N' Rally Preparation Manual and FIA 'Group N' homologation papers. Also included are previous event paperwork including some from the 1998 Rallye de la Boucles de la Semois that the car completed. This car is a proper time-warp 'Group N' specification car with some 12,100km from new at the time of cataloguing. Presented to auction recommissioned for the road and sporting new livery, ready for the next show.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS COSWORTH Year: 1997 Chassis Number: SABTVR03657017527 Registration Number: Q981RNV Transmission: Manual Engine Number: OT5077 Drive Side: Left-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 12100 KM Make: LHD Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 233

On offer from the Barton J Hubert No Reserve Collection - shooting brake, cool styling and a sonorous soundtrack from the desirable S54 engine; one of only 165 right-hand drive Z3M Coupés produced worldwide, and one of just 14 S54 examples in Steel Grey. The Z3 was the first modern mass-market roadster produced by BMW, as well as the first new BMW model to be assembled in the United States. It was introduced as a 1996 model-year vehicle, shortly after being featured in the James Bond movie Goldeneye. While the film was number one at the box office, sales of the car peaked and over 15,000 orders had been placed by the time the car was launched. The Z3 was designed by Joji Nagashima of the BMW design team, and was developed from the 3-series E36 platform, and consequently is often referred to as the E36/7 (Roadster) or E36/8 (Coupé). When launched, only the 1.9-litre, straight-four engine was offered, but its 138bhp proved a bit short of breath. A 2.2-litre engine producing 168bhp was made available for the more enthusiastic driver whilst in 1997 a powerful six-cylinder 2.8-litre unit producing 190bhp was an option, and ultimately, in 1998, the 3.2-litre Z3M topped the range. In October 2001, the 'M' Coupé reappeared with the new 3.2-litre 'S54' B32 engine from the E46 M3, producing 321bhp at 7,400rpm and 258lb/ft, and it transformed the Z3M. On paper, the difference is a mere 4bhp, but in the real world it feels like at least 40bhp! The free-revving characteristics remained, but with the power instantly available throughout the range; smoother, torquier, more responsive – in other words, the drivers' choice and the model the enthusiasts hanker for.Only 165 right-hand drive Z3M Coupés were made worldwide, with just 123 for the UK-market, plus, this car is one of only 15 S54 examples finished in the rare colour of Stahlgrau Metallic (Steel Grey), which makes this a particularly desirable car.The car presented here is a 2002 Z3M Coupé (S54) and is one of those 14 S54 examples produced in arguably the best (and rarest) BMW hue of Steel Grey, and doesn’t it suit the car? Wow. Complemented by a single-tone black interior (no two-tone seats here) this is 'uber-cool BMW-ness'. Supplied new by Jacksons BMW, Guernsey C.I in February 2002, the all-important M Power running-in service and subsequent 12 services were all carried out by the supplying main dealer. It was latterly serviced by renowned specialists Hexagon (including Inspection II service), and treated to new brake calipers, discs and pads, plus a wheel alignment. Supplied with its original and complete book-pack (including stamped-up service schedule), its original bill of sale, plus invoices for maintenance/upkeep, this is the complete 'Z3M package'.In exceptionally good condition, our vendor selected this car as part of his Collection for its quality, specification and rarity. With a full and comprehensive service history, supporting its meagre 45,000 miles, this is a superb modern-classic, and tipped to be a future star. Indeed, Bonhams, at their recent Zoute Sale, achieved €149,500 for another S54 in Steel Grey, a quite amazing result, but it shows how highly-regarded these cars are - a never-to-be-repeated, powerful, naturally aspirated engined, almost bespoke type of production car from a major manufacturer – certainly a high-tidemark model. Offered for sale at 'No Reserve', this is a special opportunity.Specification Make: BMW Model: Z3M COUPÉ S54 Year: 2002 Chassis Number: WBSCN92070LC69221 Registration Number: M23 BMV Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 45000 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

EDGE OF TOMORROW (2014) - Nance's (Charlotte Riley) Hero Light-up Exo-suit ArmsNance's (Charlotte Riley) hero light-up exo-suit arms from Doug Liman's sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow. "New Jacket" exo-suits were worn by the United Defence Force (UDF) military whilst battling the alien race invading Earth. Nance wore a dual-barrel cannon launcher arm as opposed to the other triple-barrel cannons worn by her comrades. Both arms are painted a mottled army green and made of resin and plastic with some metal components, foam padded arm supports with hook-and-loop straps, and rubber grips featuring yellow and red functional buttons. Weaponry is attached to the exteriors; the left arm has two black-painted resin cannon launchers, and the right has a black-painted biscuit foam assault rifle that features a removable resin barrel with an LED tip connected to interior wiring. When operated by a battery, this LED simulated the flashing lights of rapid gunfire but remains untested. The assault rifle and one of the cannon barrels are affixed to a sliding rig of metal channels. These weapons have a recoil mechanism that was powered by a pneumatic ram valve system. Air rams are affixed behind each gun, wiring connects these to pneumatic valves located on the arm's interior. Compressed air was supplied to these valves via the black mesh-covered rubber cables that feed out from the back of each arm. When working, this system would have caused the guns to slide up and down their metal channels, simulating rapid-fire recoil. The arm components exhibit intentional distressing to appear battle-worn, as well as additional scuffs, cracks, and dust from production use. Residue of a black sticky substance is present on the end of one arm. Dimensions: (largest) 66 cm x 30 cm x 26 cm (26" x 12" x 10 1/4").Contains mechanical components; see mechanical notice in the Buyer's Guide.Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: £3,500 - 7,000 M View all lots from EDGE OF TOMORROW (2014)Bidding for this lot will end on Saturday, November 11th. THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD (1973) - Ray Harryhausen Hand-drawn Concept Drawing of the Neanderthal Man and the Cyclopean CentaurA framed Ray Harryhausen hand-drawn concept drawing of the Neanderthal Man fighting the Cyclopean Centaur from the production of Gordon Hessler's fantasy film The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. This artwork is rendered in pencil on white drawing paper. It depicts a prehistoric man, club raised, with his other hand around the throat of the boulder-wielding mythical beast, with Sinbad (John Phillip Law) and Margiana (Caroline Munro) looking on. A standard Cyclops was initially envisioned but looked too much like "a man in a suit." This prompted the development of a more creative Cyclopean Centaur.
