A rare John Galliano 'Lolita' collection tousled, fringed body suit, SS 1992, probably the show piece, unlabelled, of nude silk crepe de chine overlaid in grey tulle, the low front and cuffs edged in floss silk fringing in shade of orangeThis was the lost show Galliano made with Aguecheek as his backer. It never went into production - hence no labelling. On the catwalk it was worn with a black bra and bias cut transparent skirt.Provenance: a member of the Galliano studio CONDITION REPORT: Tulle needs re-stitching at the armholes. Soiling to crotch, would benefit from cleaning. Otherwise good condition.
A John Galliano navy wool and faux fur coat, 'Tin Tribe' collection, AW 1996-97, with Galliano Paris and Bergdorf Goodman labels dated 12-16-96, with graduated 'bird peck' cutwork overall but more concentrated over the bodice area, faux beaver lamb facings, size 42/10; together a fitted grey flannel suit, AW 1997-98 'Susie Sphinx' collection, the jacket with faux curved front pockets, size 36, (3)The cutwork design on the coat was inspired by birds pecking milk tops. The AW 96-97 collection was a highly successful mixture of stylish city ensembles with vibrant and exotic central Asian and native American inspired looks. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition
A John Galliano black wool suit, 'Pin-up/Misia Sert' collection, Spring-Summer 1995, burgundy satin Paris label, jacket with padded shoulders and halter-neck style lapel, cord covered buttons; the high-waisted pencil skirt with interior corset, bust 92cm, 36in, waist 71cm, 28in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Jacket: good condition, no problems. Skirt: good condition, lining has split along seam below rear zip closure (minor). Would benefit from dry cleaning, light soiling.
Five swimsuits, 1950s-60s, including a Cole of California black example with plunging mesh insert to front, labelled; a Catalina of California printed cotton beach ensemble, labelled, and others, various sizes (8) Margit Fellegi was chief designer for Coles from 1936-1972, having previously designed for stage and film. In 1964 she designed the stretch lycra suit with elasticated mesh that held the suit in place. The suit was revealing but at the same time secure. The advertisement at the time showing a picture of Joan MacGowan wearing the suit asked, 'Isn't it time somebody created and absolutely wild scandal for nice girls?'. Esther Williams was also an advocate of Cole's swim-wear stating 'Here's the perfect suit for real swimmers...the best I've ever worn. It will really do something for your form - in or out of the water'. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, pink with shop tag still attached. Cole suit - black fishnet mesh has discoloured to brown in places.
A Chanel couture black and white tartan wool suit, mid 1960s, un-labelled, the jacket with gilt cast lion-head buttons, four pockets, lined in silk and with chain weighted hem; knee length skirt, bust 86cm, 34in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Good condition. Lacking cufflinks. Four of the buttons are Chanel replacements of originals. Jacket is lacking cuff-link type buttons, buttonholes - the stitches have worn and been re-embroidered, lining seam has re-opened 1cm below left armhole (minor), centre back lining seam has been re-sewn - probably made smaller down centre back seam. Skirt has been altered, waistline has been reduced and fabric taken in rear left hip area and centre back above kick pleat, hem has been raised and re-lowered to original.

A Jean Paul Gaultier man's rayon jumpsuit, 1990s, Homme labelled and size GB 42, with plunging halter-neck and low back, nautical striped lining to bodice, waist 91cm, 36in Provenance: Lots 319 to 326, from the estate of the late Robert Patterson Robert Patterson was something of a 'dandy'. Through his career as a sculptor and design of mannequins he came into close contact with the fashion industry. He was known for his personal sense of style which could include him turning up to the Royal Opera House, bare-chested wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier halter-neck jump suit - to the tweedy 'country-squire' look for more casual weekends. Robert created mannequins for ground-breaking exhibitions such as the recent Alexander McQueen shows at both the Metropolitan Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Although modest about his considerable talents and successful career, he was not shy when it came to dressing up. His sartorial style was admired and appreciated by those who knew him. He died in 2016 following an illness. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition, no problems

A Chanel couture cocktail suit, 1963, labelled and numbered 18145, the sleeveless dress with ivory and silver lamé bodice, ivory bouclé wool skirt, self-covered buttons, the loose jacket with chain to hem, bust 92cm, 36in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Jacket: one sleeve has been relined, one sleeve in need of relining, otherwise fresh and good. Dress: exterior is good, bodice lining with faint perspiration rings and a split. Skirt lining has been replaced, a few holes in this above rear hem area.

A Chanel couture peacock blue and brown flecked tweed suit, 1974, labelled and numbered 50064, the tweed probably by Bernat Klein, with short stand collar, blue tweed edgings, gilt concave buttons, matching straight skirt, chest 97cm, 38in, waist 76cm, 30in (2) CONDITION REPORT: Jacket: has moth damage to front closure edging and 3cm diam hole within the left front tweed panel, silk lining is faintly discoloured along neck edge and has peppering of small brown marks (minor). Piling to tweed. Pres-studs inside cuffs indicate an optional cuff attachment. Skirt: silk lining with moth damage, front left side seam has been altered.

A Digby Morton grey wool pinstripe suit, 1950s, labelled, the jacket with self-covered buttons, two front pockets; matching long pencil skirt; together with an ivory linen summer dress, busts 92cm, 36in (3) CONDITION REPORT: Good. Morton- perspiration stains to underarms at lining only, not visible to exterior. Slight light brown satining to white pin-stripes at right front near hem, minor.
STOKER BRAM: (1847-1912) Irish Author of the novel Dracula (1897). A.L.S., Bram Stoker, one page, 8vo, n.p. (London), 12th March 1897, to a gentleman, on the blind embossed stationery of the Lyceum Theatre. Stoker announces 'I should of course be delighted to send you a photo but I have not one - I have not had one done for years', adding that the last he had taken was in America and that he doesn't have any copies. However Stoker continues to add 'I have asked Mr. Burgin….to send you a stereo of my portrait which is in Miss Betty in case that would suit you. I hope it will'. Some very light, extremely minor age wear and with a slightly irregularly trimmed left edge, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VGThe present letter is dated in the same year that Dracula was published. Stoker accompanied actor Henry Irving, owner of the Lyceum Theatre, to America during a tour in the capacity of the thespian's personal assistant. Stoker published his non-fiction work A Glimpse of America in 1886.
ZOLA EMILE: (1840-1902) French Novelist, Playwright & Journalist, a prominent figure in the Dreyfus Affair. A.L.S., Emile Zola, two pages (separate leaves), 8vo, Paris, 3rd April 1889, to a colleague ('Mon cher confrére'), in French. Zola apologises for not having replied to his correspondent earlier and adds that, instead of disturbing him, it may be simpler to come and see him, enquiring 'Don't you all gather at the seat of the Society of Men of Letters?' and adding 'If yes, please make me an appointment there, at 4pm, on the day that will suit you best, except Thursday and Saturday'. A few minor spots of foxing and some extremely light age wear, otherwise VG
BATTENBERG LOUIS: (1854-1921) British Admiral of the Fleet, father of Louis Mountbatten. A.L.S., Louis Battenberg, three pages, 8vo, Darmstadt, 19th May 1892, to his steward (Groundsall), marked 'Private'. Battenberg sends his instructions for mobilising and informs his correspondent that if they receive a telegram 'saying “Embark at Portsmouth” (or any other port) such and such a date” ' then they are to arrange at once for a cook and valet to accompany him, further listing the items that they should take, including uniform, sword & belts, a great coat and cloak, six pairs of white trousers, a chest of drawers and pillows and bed linen, and further remarking 'If I telegraph the name of ship, you are not to let anyone know'. Together with a second A.L.S., Louis Battenberg, three pages, 8vo, Darmstadt, 11th November 1892, also to his steward (Groundsall), announcing that he has an appointment at the Admiralty and will require a valet, explaining 'He will have very light work as I shall live in lodgings and have my meals at the Club. When the Princess comes out we shall stay at an Hotel. When I travel on inspections the servant will remain in London. He will be on board wages & as my expenses will otherwise be high & the work light, the wages will not be high. If you care to come I will gladly take you - if not, get me someone else. As I shall keep the appointment until I get a ship, when I should be ready to take you again as Steward, it may suit you….' Also including an autograph envelope hand addressed by Battenberg to E. Groundsall ('Steward to H.I.H. Pc. L of B') at Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, signed by Battenberg with his initial to the lower left corner and postmarked at London, July 1892. Some heavy traces of former mounting to the edges of the first letter and both with some age wear and neat splitting at the edges of the folds, only very slightly affecting the text. FR to about G, 3
CHURCHILL WINSTON S.: (1874-1965) British Prime Minister 1940-45, 1951-55. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1953. A vintage signed 5 x 7½ photograph by Churchill, the image depicting the politician seated in a three-quarter length pose wearing a suit with bow tie. Signed ('WS Churchill') in dark fountain pen ink to a dark area at the base of the image. Matted in cream and framed and glazed in a brown wooden frame to an overall size of 9½ x 12. Together with a T.L.S., LM Shillingford, by Lettice Shillingford, Churchill's Secretary, one page, 8vo (neatly trimmed), London, 16th November 1956, to Mr J. W. Kirk, pasted to the verso of the frame, stating, in full, 'I return to you the photograph which you sent some time ago, belonging to Mr. Upchurch. Sir Winston was very glad to sign it for him, and you were kind enough to say you would deliver it.' VG
