A SINGLE BROUGHAMEARLY 20TH CENTURYA fine example of a high quality carriage to suit a single horse, painted Royal blue and black, with cream lining. The iron-shod English pattern wheels on elliptic springs, black patent leather splash guards to the sides, and step covers, suggest that it was built for provincial rather than town or city use. The exterior has fine details including carved dub ends, decorative white metal door handles, an elegant curved underbody, and decorative ends to the rear spring hangers. The interior retains much of the original Bedford cord fabric, including the pockets to the doors and front panel and the seat back. The rest has been restored sympathetically to match the original. The front and door windows drop down, and there are interior roller blinds. The front dashboard is also in black patent leather, behind which is the driver's and groom's seat, with side hand brake. A pair of black and brass pagoda top carriage lamps and a pair of swan neck shafts are included.161cm wide overall, cab is 102cm wide, driver's seat 89cm wide, 337cm long when the shafts are raised, approximately 507cm long when shafts are lowered, 188cm high to top of cab Provenance: Lady Hamner (1826-1911), and thence by descent at Weston Hall.  Condition Report: Condition is good.
