An interesting WW2 Home Guard group, relating to Albert Frederick Hodgkins of the Basingstoke Borough Company, who served between March 26th 1941 and December 31st 1944. To include: an earlier issued LDV armband, with screen printed lettering nad a popper stud sewn to the inside for attaching to a sleeve. Also, 2 embroidered LDV slip on shoulder title, a July 1944 dated Home Guard parade ticket, a Home Guard service certificate with the facsimile signature of George VI. Plus, a printed version of the Kings Broadcast To The Home Guard from December 1944, a small quantity of type written documents (some marked Private & Confidential), which would appear to be a sort of newsletter. Interestingly, there are several references made to suspicious characters seen in the area, such a gentleman calling himself ‘Colonel Kampden’ seen ‘wearing the uniform of the Australian Imperial Forces’. Another document talks about an ‘Enemy Alien’ at large, dressed ‘in a grey flannel suit (no hat), speaks good English, 32 years of age…possesses tow false identity cards of “Henry Evans” and “Albert Williams”. An amusing letter, written by a Brig-Gen A.F.U. Green to the editor of the Daily Telegraph, talks about the woeful quality of arms supplied to the Home Guard during WW2. Condition: generally good throughout. The cloth items are clean and free from damage. The service certificate has a triangular shaped tear to the bottom edge, but it does not effect the printed area. The other paper items show normal age related wear, such as fold lines and foxing in places.
