H.M Queen Elizabeth II and H.R.H Prince Philip. Christmas greetings card from 1952 signed by both individually beneath a printed Christmas message. The stiff cream folding card featuring an image to the inside of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip with young Prince Charles and Princess Anne. Signed by both, "Elizabeth R" and "Philip" in dark ink. With a gilt embossed Crown to the cover. 1952 was a tumultuous year for the royal family, Elizabeth and Philip were sent on a tour of Australia and New Zealand by way of Kenya in place of Elizabeth's ailing father, King George VI, during which word arrived of the death of the King and consequently Elizabeth's immediate accession to the throne. The 1952 card also marked the first appearance of Charles and Anne. 21.5 x 17cm. Also sold with a ticket for The Coronation of Their Majesties King George VI & Queen Elizabeth on the 12th May 1937 (2). Provenance: consigned for sale by the grandson of the Rev. Maurice F. Foxell to whom the card was sent. Maurice Frederic Foxell (1888-1981), KCVO (Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order) was a British clergyman, artist, and author. Foxell served as Deputy Clerk of the Closet, the domestic chaplain to King George VI and later to Queen Elizabeth II. His other titles included precentor and sub-dean of the Chapels Royal and, earlier, priest-in-ordinary to George VI. He assisted at the christening of Charles, Prince of Wales and the baptism of Prince Andrew, Duke of York. In his office, he represented the Royal Household at funerals and conducted religious services. He retired from the office in 1965. Condition Report: Overall good condition with some discoloration to the exterior of the card
