RODRIGUEZ DE LA VEGA PEDRO: (1940-1971) Mexican motor racing Driver. Rodríguez was killed during a car race in Nuremberg while he was driving for the lead at the wheel of a Ferrari. Rare D.S., being a 1969 contremarque ticket from the 24 hours of Le Mans. Signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen across the ticket to a partially clear area. Autographs of Rodriguez de la Vega are rare in any form following his tragic early death at the age of 31. VG. £80-100

STANFORD CHARLES VILLIERS: (1852-1924) Irish Composer & Conductor. A.L.S., C V Stanford, one page, 8vo, Holland Street, Kensington, 18th March 1897, to [Joseph] Joachim. Stanford invites Joachim to come and hear the Hungarian Concerto the following evening in St. James Hall, explaining 'We have a ticket for you & if you can come…it would be delightful' and concluding 'I think you will be pleased'. With blank integral leaf. Together with a second A.L.S., C V Stanford, two pages, 8vo, Cambridge, 5th January 1891, also to [Joseph] Joachim. Stanford writes concerning the publication of a concerto, explaining that he believes no pianoforte arrangement exists, and further informing his correspondent that a concert will take place in Cambridge on 24th & 25th February including the Mendelssohn Concerto and Schumann's Fantasie. With blank integral leaf. A couple of small, neat splits to the edges of the central folds of the second letter, otherwise VG, 2 £100-120 Joseph Joachim (1831-1907) Hungarian Violinist, Conductor & Composer. Joachim's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor “in the Hungarian Manner” (Op.11) is a Romantic violin concerto which was written in the summer of 1857 and given its premiere in 1860 in Hanover.

BRUNE GUILLAUME MARIE ANNE: (1763-1815) Marshal of France. A.L.S., Brune, one page, 8vo, Paris, 29th October 1802, to the maritime Prefect of Brest, in French. On a letter bearing the printed heading "French Republic, General Brune, Counselor of State, Ambassador of the French Republic to the Sublime Door" Brune kindly asks his correspondent to attend his request and states `I beg you to kindly grant to this young man, whose family has been very unfortunate during the revolution, a ticket to go to the Martinique, because he deserves your benevolence´. A good autograph letter by Brune who, at the time of the present letter, had recently been appointed by Napoleon ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, and who iniciated relationships between France and Persia. Small creasing and some overall age wear, otherwise VG. £200-300

[ROOSEVELT THEODORE]: (1858-1919) American President 1901-09. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1906. ROOSEVELT III THEODORE (1887-1944) American Political Leader, eldest son of Theodore Roosevelt. Collection of six T.Ls.S., Theodore Roosevelt, six pages (total), 4to, New York City and Oyster Bay, Long Island, 26th July 1919 - 2nd September 1927, all to Alexander T. Van Schoek, most on his personal printed stationery. Roosevelt writes on a variety of matters, in part, 'I was in the Army of Occupation myself at the time of my father's death so I have seen no telegrams that came at that time. There were many thousands of them' (26th July 1919), '…there has been most satisfactory progress in the campaign. Two things stand out as vital to success; First - We must not let up for a moment but keep at it vigorously. Second - All votes must be brought to the polls - every single one of them. I am counting on you to keep up the good work.' (23rd October 1924), 'We have fought a clean hard fight, with every ounce of strength we had. The balance of the State ticket has been elected; the Senate and Assembly are Republican. What is more important is, Coolidge was elected. They may have knocked us down, but we are not out.' (12th November 1924), the further letters referring to meetings etc. All are accompanied by the original envelopes. Some of the letters bear pencil annotations and with some age wear, small tears and neat splits at the edges of the folds etc. Together with Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) American Politician and Diplomat, First Lady of the United States 1933-45. Niece of Theodore Roosevelt. Brief T.L.S., Eleanor Roosevelt, one page, 8vo, New York, 6th March 1953, to Miss. White, regretting that she did not receive her letter in time as she was in Washington and New York and her mail was delayed. Boy Bishop cast leaded token of large size, obverse depicts a Bishop's mitre, the reverse although of large size imitates a mediaeval groat, both sides looking to have pseudo-legends, these have at times been read, sold with old ticket, large, well centred, scarce, GF

Boy Bishop cast leaded token with an old ticket which states of 'Bury St. Edmunds' the piece is roughly of mediaeval groat size and the reverse similar to same but superimposed at centre a large cross, no legend being visible. Again with the obverse no legend is visible but there is a central mediaeval ship which has lead some numismatists to reason that these are in fact coin weights. I think not, you would not produce a coin weight in lead for obvious reasons, loss of correct weight. It has been put forward by S.E.Rigold that this is actually a product of Ipswich and a rendering of The Town Arms, there are Boy Bishop tokens known of Ipswich but these are rare, sold with old ticket, F
