PURPLE RAIN (1984) - The Dr. Fink Collection: Matt Fink's Personal First Draft Script and Movie Premiere Ticket - Matt Fink's personal first draft script and premiere ticket from the production of Albert Magnoli's rock musical drama Purple Rain. This lot comes from the personal collection of Matt Fink (known by his stage name Dr. Fink). Dated "29 August 1983", the script is bound by three brass pins, is credited to Magnoli and comprises 106 pages. The front title page is autographed in black marker pen by Fink. The ticket is for the film's premiere at Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on July 26, 1984, and "Matt" is handwritten inside. Also included in the lot are a promotional programme for Purple Rain and a printer's proof sheet showing designs for either a vinyl picture disc or promotional stickers. The lot exhibits minor creases, with some marks and edge wear on some script pages. This lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity co-signed by Dr Fink. After their covers of John Lennon's and Paul McCartney's "I Wanna Be Your Man," Chuck Berry's "Come On," and Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" propelled them into public recognition as faces of the so-called British Invasion, the legendary rock band performed at six separate tours in 1964, with the Tower Ballroom performance taking place during their third British tour. Augustus Gloop was the first child to find a golden ticket hidden in his chocolate bar, but not before biting into both the bar and the ticket. The bar is made of resin, while the branded packaging and golden tickets are paper. A section has been removed from both the golden tickets and the bar to make them appear as if they've been bitten into. Also included in the lot is a picture of the character autographed in black marker pen by Wiegratz. The wording on the bar's branded packaging is in English, despite it appearing in German on the bar seen on screen. This short tract is dedicated by Thomas Wolf of Strasbourg to Johann Geiler von Kaysersberg (1445-1510), a fellow humanist and preacher of Stasbourg. The work is composed of verse and prose condolences to Thomas Wolf of Strasbourg (1475-1509) on the death of his brother, by Gallinarius, Ringmann, Wimpfeling, Ulrich Zasius, and Conradus Mutianus Rufus. The last prose letter from Mutianus Rufus describes how the writer had passed his Christmas holidays with church services but also banqueting, in conformity with a custom that mixed the celebration of Saint John the Baptist with pagan bacchanalian rites.

(Discreet ticket on spine, sides chafed, dam. to extremities, lower joint partly broken, textblock broken between B2 and C, some yellowing/foxing, slight waterstains in places, one small doodle in the margin of a print). NOTE: Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid (The Great Mirror of Folly) pokes mordant, satirical fun at the speculative period of the "bubbles" in 1720 which all bursted at about the same time. The 'South Sea Bubble', named after the British South Sea Company, lasted from January to September, 1720; the 'Mississippi Bubble', after the Mississippi Company in France, had begun a bit earlier, in 1719. Finally, the 'Dutch bubble' derived from the other two bubbles and started in March 1720. Very important source for 18th c. Dutch economic history.
