George Sidney Shepherd (1784-1862) The haunted hou George Sidney Shepherd (1784-1862) The haunted house in Cock Lane London scene of the 18th century spiritual and social phenomenon of the Cock Lane Ghost with a ticket to a seance mounted below and a related contemporary song sheet mounted on the verso pencil drawing with bistre wash signed with initials lower right partial caption in pencil below letterpress ticket and song sheet laid either side of mount 13.5 x 8 cm (5 1/4 x 3 1/4 in) *** In 1762 the Cock Lane Ghost fired the popular imagination as crowds thronged the narrow street where the restless spirit of Frances Lynes known as Scratching Fanny communicated accusations of her murder by her lover William Kent by knocks and scratches interpreted by a 12 year old medium. Horace Walpole and the Duke of York attended one of the many seances David Garrick turned the story into a play and Dr Johnson was a member of the committee charged with investigating the affair. A copy of the book The Cock Lane Ghost by Douglas Grant 1965 accompanies this lot.

LIND JENNY: (1820-1887) Swedish Opera Singer. Bold, dark fountain pen ink signature (`Jenny Lind`) on a slim oblong 8vo piece, dated New York, 17th September 1850 in her hand. Neatly laid down to a card. Together with a rare original printed 8vo ticket for Jenny Lind`s Second Concert, Castle Garden, New York, 13th September (1850). The orange and black printed ticket features an ornate design by J. W. Orr and the partially affixed stubb, numbered 1395 Parquette, bears the facsimile signature of P. T. Barnum who organised Lind`s first concerts in New York. Some light age wear and minor staining, G, 2 The story behind Lind`s association with Barnum is a fascinating one; Barnum generated enormous publicity for Jenny Lind`s tour by auctioning off the tickets for the best seats to her first concert in New York city. The Swedish Nightingale`s first two performances in New York were charity concerts to which thousands attended and a total revenue of over $24,000 was collected.
[VICTORIA]: (1819-1901) Queen of the United Kingdom Great Britain & Ireland 1837-1901. An original printed oblong 8vo ticket for the Coronation of Queen Victoria, issued by the Duke of Norfolk, Earl Marshal, to Mr. Grisdale, allowing admittance to the South Door, Poets Corner of Westminster Abbey on 28th June 1838. The attractively printed invitation, featuring a crowned monogram at the head and blind embossed seal, is numbered 604. WEST BROMWICH ALBION: An autograph album containing two adjoining pages individually signed by fourteen members of West Bromwich Albion football team, including many of the 1954 FA Cup winning team, Jim Sanders, Len Millard, Jimmy Dudley, Jimmy Dugdale, Ray Barlow, Frank Griffin, Reg Ryan, Ronnie Allen, Johnny Nicholls, George Lee, Bobby Robson etc., each have signed with their names alone in blue ink. The album also includes signatures of various members of Portsmouth FC, 1954, and a few other non-football related signatures. WEST HAM UNITED: An unusual collection of candid colour 5 x 3.5 photographs, the images relating to West Ham United`s victory in the FA Cup Final, 1975, including shots of the players celebrating with the Cup during an open top bus parade, images of a football match in progress etc., each signed to the verso by various West Ham United players including Trevor Brooking, Kevin Lock, Frank Lampard, John McDowell, Alan Taylor, Mervyn Day, Graham Paddon, Billy Jennings, John Lyall, Ron Greenwood etc. A little duplication and a few multiple signed. Together with a small selection of related printed ephemera including Official Souvenir edition of the Hammers programme for the European Cup Winners Cup Final, R.S.C. Anderlecht v. West Ham United, 1975-76, tickets for FA Charity Shield finals at Wembley, 1975 & 1980, FA Cup final ticket, 1975 etc. Some light age wear, FR to generally G, 39 West Ham United beat Fulham 2-0 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on 3rd May 1975. The West Ham United team are the last all-English team to have won the FA Cup.

HAMBURG / BIRMINGHAM Superb cloth bound folder for the game Hamburg FA v Birmingham FA, 15th August 1953 and played in Hamburg between teams representing the two areas. Birmingham consisted of 3 Birmingham City players, 2 x Villa, 3 x West Brom , 2 x Wolves and 1 x Coventry and this superb presentation folder includes signed itineraries for the trip, post match Menu, autographs of all the players from both teams including Gil Merrick, Ronnie Allen, Billy Wright, Ray Swinbourne, Ken Green etc. The Hamburg team included 4 x Hamburg SV players and 4 x FC St Pauli players, all have signed together with various officials and the folder includes many glossy pictures of the game which ended 2-2 together with photographs of Hamburg and match reports of the game. One of the Itineraries provides a second set of autographs of the Birmingham team, and a match ticket is also included. A superb , probably unique item , over 30 pages, in very good condition. QPR Scarce official Athletico Bilbao Club magazine dated July 1975 covering the Third International Trophy played in August 1975 involving AC Bilbao, QPR, Benfica and Real Sociedad. Internal pages preview the Tournament and include QPR teamgroup, ticket details and photos of Gerry Francis and Stan Bohles (Bowles).
