Ephemera – Trial of Lord Melville 1806 good example of an admission ticket for the celebrated trial of Henry Dundas Lord Melville – the last Impeachment trial to be held in the House of Lords. The ticket is signed by Lord Northwick and is for the Honourable Harriet Rushout to attend the 14th day of the trial. This seems to be a specific ticket for women as it states at the head that ‘NO LADY can claim admission into the seats called the Peeresses Seats by this ticket unless her name is written on the back thereof on the line demoting the state of her claim’. Printed to both sides of a 4to sheet of paper with the coat of arms of the Lords to recto and list of qualifying categories for entry for women to verso signed by Harriet in the appropriate spot. Bottom right hand corner torn away presumably to cancel the ticket one diagonal crease but in an acceptable condition. Melville was impeached for financial irregularities when he was First Lord of the Admiralty but was acquitted.
