Three small coloured glass decanters and stoppers, c.1790, of differing shape, two of a deep cobalt blue and gilded with bottle tickets inscribed 'RUM', the last a bluish green and gilded with a shield-shaped ticket inscribed 'SHRUB', the flattened stoppers gilded with letters and chain or foliate motifs, 25.2cm max. Five original ticket stubs from Punk era concerts including The Clash at Fairdeal Theatre, 1982 and at University of Lancaster 1980, a rare ticket for Buzzzcocks at King George's Hall, Blackburn in 1979 with Joy Division as support ac, Ramones at Uni of Lancaster 1980, New Order / Section 25 at Scamps, 1980.
An original 1971 poster advertising Led Zeppelin's 'Electric Magic' concerts at Wembley Pool. Measures 76.5 x 100.5cm. Very strong VF condition with only light wear to edges to note. One of the cleanest examples we have seen. Also to include rare original ticket stub, also in excellent condition.
An excellent collection of documents relating to Jam concerts in 1978. To include: original 1978 three page contract for a concert in Torquay, signed twice by John Weller. A ticket stub for a date on 31st July at Torquay Town Hall. Several pages of handwritten accounting notes inc a costs list for the concert, a handwritten guest list.
Two concert programmes: The Beatles Show at the Odeon Southport, The Beatles Show at Fairfield Hall, Croydon (note newspaper cuttings affixed to inner page, a ticket also affixed to an inner page). These items were originally from the collection of Beatles biographer Hunter Davies and may include some handwritten notes (all removable) by the author.
An original concert poster advertising the second of the two legendary concerts in Manchester in July 1976 with the Sex Pistols, supported by Buzzcocks (who organised the concerts) and Slaughter and the Dogs. This example measures 61 x 42.5cm. Shows evidence of folds, edge wear, light losses etc.Provenance: the vendor attended a free concert in July of 1978, also at The Free Trade Hall, with Buzzcocks performing a headline set in order to recognise the anniversary of the Sex Pistols shows. During the concert Pete Shelley held up the poster seen in this lot in order to illustrate a point about having performed there (the FTH) two years earlier with the Sex Pistols. Later, as the vendor was waiting to obtain signatures from members of Buzzcocks, he noticed the folded poster lying discarded on the floor. Also included in this sale is an original card ticket/handbill with signatures from Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle as well as Dave Formula of Magazine to the reverse (flyer measured 15.6 x 21.5cm). The vendor has also tracked down an image of Pete Shelley holding the poster during the concert and has printed a copy to include with the poster.
CAPTAIN HARDY'S BOOK OF COMMON PRAYERprinted by John Reeves, London c.1801, with Hardy’s signature for May 1818 on an endpaper, a few leaves loose, contemporary red straight-grain morocco, upper hinge broken, contemporary bookseller’s ticket of Bowderry and Kerry -- 6 x 3in. (15 x 7.5cm.) Thomas Masterman Hardy (1769-1839) one of Nelson's 'Band of Brothers', was made captain in 1798 and with Nelson as he died, created a baronet in 1806 and vice-admiral of the Blue in 1837.
A collection of Sunderland Association Football Club autographs and ephemera, c. 1955-1975, comprising hand-made scrap album containing tipped-in newspaper cuttings and the signatures of various players, coaches, and management, signed in pen and ink; a 'Sunderland's Promotion Year 1964 Souvenir Brochure', two season ticket booklets for the years 1964-1965 and 1966-1967, a newspaper from May 6th 1973, and a file of various newspaper clippings; Sir Stanley Matthews CBE - autographs, one signed in blue ink over a printed magazine image of a smiling Stan Matthews in 1957, 'To George, Best Wishes, Stan Matthews', and two further newspaper clippings depicting Matthews over-signed in blue ink, 27 x 18cms, 14 x 11cms, and 13 x 11cms.
