Alderman Bertram Samuel Thorpe (1879-1946) and Frederick William Lancaster of 21, Derwent Street, Derby worked in partnership from 1904 initially from 90 St. Peter's Street. Thorpe himself was a Derby Councillor 1923-1945 and served as Mayor of Derby in 1934-35. This instrument dates from their early (1904-14) period.
