A French Empire style gilt wall clock and barometer en-suite, late 19th century, the clock with eight-day two train gong striking movement and 10 inch circular verre eglomise Roman numeral dial inscribed MOUTON A VERSAILLES to the rosette decorated centre, the barometer with conforming dial calibrated for barometric inches and with weather observations annotated in French, each in gilt gesso square picture frame type case with palmette and scroll relief infill to spandrel areas, each 61cm square (2)Condition Report: Clock -movement appears complete and is in working condition although a service/clean is advised. The movement appears original to the case and stylistically dates to the second half of the 19th century hence we are of the opinion that both the clock and barometer are 'revival' pieces made in the Louis XVI/Empire style and bear a name associated with this earlier period. The dial has overall patchy delamination to the rear of the glass panel. The case has a small crack to the panel beneath the dial and flaking/losses to the gilding to the lower and right hand margins of the frame. Clock is complete with winding key and pendulum.Barometer -utilises a double-bend syphon tube which is intact and filled with mercury however will require setting-up/adjustment before likely to be operational. The dial and case are generally in good original condition with no apparent significant faults.Condition Report Disclaimer
