This is an origial unaltered Civil War carbine in .52 caliber rimfire, also listed as .56-56, with six groove rifling. Serial No. range 11000 to 61000. Features round barrel, single band, Spencer military folding rear sight, walnut stocks, saddle ring and bar, rear sling swivel, loading tube in butt. Spencer patent dates stamped on receiver bridge. All metal is a brown patina. Buttstock is very good. Cartouche not visible. 3-1/2" stress crack on left side of butt and a repaired 2" crack on right rear forearm. There is some scattered salt and pepper on hammer and some heavier pitting on lever. Strong rifling and fine action. These were the mainstay and most desirable of all carbines issued during the Civil War; coveted on both sides of the conflict due to the rapidity of fire and reliability. An iconic Civil War carbine in attic-found condition, a survivor of numerous conflicts as evidenced by its condition. A veritable barometer of Civil War hostilities in an iconic American firearm.
