A Good Quality Aneroid Barometer, c. 1880, French for the English market, engraved to the rear 'Leuchar's 38 Piccadilly, London' in heavy gilt-brass case, with blind fret and engraved decoration, silvered dial divided to 1/50th inch, weather predictions labelled in English, below 'Holosteric Barometer 2696'. Height measures 18cm.Note: Pressure tested and workingLeuchars was established at 47 Piccadilly, London in 1794 by James Leuchars. In 1820, the business moved to 38 Piccadilly shortly before James Leuchars died in 1823.Lucy Leuchars, James’ widow, continued the business under the name of L. Leuchars. In 1837, the same year as Queen Victoria came to the throne, the firm was awarded the Royal Warrant for their supply of dressing cases to the royal family.Expanding to 39 Piccadilly in 1841, the name had now changed to Lucy Leuchars & Son; the ‘Son’ referring to William Leuchars. After Lucy’s death in 1847, William gained sole responsibility for the business. Leuchars exhibited and won prize medals for his dressing cases at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the International Exhibition of 1862, winning a further silver medal at the International Exposition of 1867 in Paris.In 1870, under the name of Leuchars & Son, William Leuchars along with his son, also called William, opened a further shop at 2 Rue de la Paix in Paris. When William Sr died in 1871, William Jr took control of the business, later winning a gold medal for their dressing cases at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris.In 1884, Leuchars moved their existing manufactory from 31 Gerrard Street, Soho, London to 8 Sherwood Street, Golden Square, London.William Jr finally agreed to sell the business, along with their Sherwood Street manufactory, to Asprey in 1888. Leuchars continued to trade from their 38 & 39 Piccadilly address until 1902.
An Irish Mercury Stick Barometer, c. 1810 by Joseph Ribaldi of Limerick, in mahogany, open pediment with urn finial, glazed door covering vernier scale and thermometer, signed 'I Ribaldi Limerick' height 96cm. Notes: A near identical barometer by Ribaldi is in the Municipal Museum Limerick. Shipping Note: Flints Auctions will drain mercury barometers for shipping if requested. HESSE HERMANN: (1877-1962) German-Swiss Poet & Novelist, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1946. A.L.S., H Hesse, on two sides of an attractive postcard featuring a colour reproduction of a drawing by Hesse entitled Dorf im Tessin ('Village in Ticino'), n.p. (Zurich), n.d. (17th October 1939), to Hana Roehr, in German. Hesse informs his correspondent that the poems for her friend have been posted to her, adding that the poems which can be used have a comment below, and further stating 'I've met 3 mountain guards in uniform at the border and been asked about current issues, but that did not come as a surprise to me. Otherwise, little has changed for me here. Only that the barometer has dropped a little'. One very minor corner crease, otherwise VG Hanna Roehr (1897-1978) German Writer and friend of Hesse.

Lane, Holb.', with aneroid thermometer and mercury tube with slide vernier, over a feather banded trunk and domed reservoir cover, 38in. (96.5cm.) high.

An early 20th century oak cased wall-hanging barometer, with a central dial to base below a thermometer to stem surmounted with a clock with white enamelled dial with black Roman numerals, the case carved with scrolling acanthus and carved foliate decoration, the base with a cartouche carved with an anchor, 66 cm high, 24 cm wide.
A mahogany checker banded stick barometer by Committi and Son of London, with a silvered dial, the case with a swan neck pediment centred with a turned brass finial, the turned cistern cover engraved with a presentation plaque relating to the firm of Pick Everard Keay, presented to a Geoffrey W Ireland, 98cm L.
