A 19th century mahogany boxwood and ebony strung wheel type barometer the swan neck pediment over a mercury thermometer and timepiece with 4 inch silvered dial, with ring of Roman numerals and single winding hole over a 9.5 inch silvered register and level to the base signed 'J Gianna, Salop', 115cm high
A large French carriage clock the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half hours on a gong with a visible lever escapement set within the two-piece brass dial, with stylised Arabic numerals and engraved centre, the brass Corniche case having an aneroid barometer set to the top, with a fluted handle, height 26.5 cm (handle up). Compete with original leather travelling box.
Negretti & Zambra, London a large and impressive carved oak Gothic barometer, with historic figures mounted within the canted corners either side of the silvered barometer dial and seated lions below, with a further figure of an angel standing below the dial, a thermometer set within the trunk, signed ‘Negretti & Zambra, Scientific Instrument Makers to Her Majesty’, height 158cm.* Negretti & Zambra, a partnership formed by Enrico Negretti and Joseph Zambra, are recorded as working at various addresses in London from 1850 and were the most prolific makers of barometers at this time having taken over the business of the leading maker John Frederick Newman in 1862. They were instrument-makers to Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort.
Abram, Bath, a mahogany stick barometer the silvered barometer register plate engraved with a vernier gauge and thermometer set within, signed ‘Abram, Bath’, the mahogany case with a visible tube, turned cistern cover and a pediment top with brass finial to the centre, height 88cm.* Jacob Abraham is recorded as working at 1, St Andrew’s Terrace, Bath and then 7, Bartlett Street ‘near the Upper Rooms’ until 1814 as well as having premises in Cheltenham ‘adjoining Mr Thompson’s Pump Room’. He was instrument maker to both the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Wellington.
An early 20th Century mahogany and brass cased barometer, the circular silvered dial inscribed `Negretti & Zambra, London No R/1821`, the circular case surmounted with a break arch panel applied with a lion`s mask, the back applied with ivory plaque inscribed `Wood From H.M.S. Empress`, height approx 41.5cm.
A George V silver watch case of circular form, Sheffield 1923, fitted with a watch, the white dial with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds, together with an Asprey leather cased desk timepiece and barometer, each with square black dial and Arabic numerals, another Asprey desk timepiece, a travelling timepiece and a bedside clock.
