Gaydon & Sons, Kingston upon Thames. An early 20thC oak cased barometer and thermometer, the heavily carved case surmounted by a scroll and oval finial, raised above a rectangular thermometer, with 18cm Dia. dial set with Arabic numerals, 88cm H and a copper warming pan with shortened handle. (2)
An Edwardian crocodile skin travelling toilet case, containing approximately twenty eight silver gilt/silver/white metal mounted items, including watch case, barometer case, mirror and brush set, toilet jars, nail implements, hip flask, etc. (approx. 7 items missing), Aron Brothers, London, 1907, case 55cm.
A Victorian silver pocket Barometer and Compass, by Lewis Nightingale, hallmarked London, 1895, in the form of a pocket watch, the case engraved around the edge with monograme and inscribed "Jeddah" 1898, 2in (5cm) diameter. Note: It is believed that this instrument was presented by Edward, Prince of Wales, to James Walker Larnach after Jeddah's victory at Epsom in 1898. J. W. Larnach was a horse breeder who owned Jeddah. The horse won the Derby in 1898 with odds of 100/1 and later went on to win the Prince of Wales Stakes and the Royal Ascot. We understand that Prince Edward (the future King Edward VII) stayed at J. W. Larnach's residence on his visits to Newmarket.
A late 19c cistern barometer signed W. Aronsberg & Co, 12 Victoria St. Manchester on its twin bone register plates which has twin veneers for yesterday and today. It is contained in a carved oak case and has a Fahrenheit and Centigrade mercury thermometer on its trunk. The cistern cover is heavily carved and there is machine carving around both the register plates and thermometer. The barometer is 42.5in tall overall.
A mid 19c tulip top wheel barometer, the 8in silvered dial signed Mansfield, Shaftsbury. The case is rosewood, inlaid with mother of pearl foliage designs and having a tulip shaped top and base. The trunk has a mercury Fahrenheit thermometer mounted on it with silvered scale and glazed front and the barometer is 38in tall overall.
