(16.5 x 16.5 x 20.5cm.)Condition report: Fine overall condition.
A FINE AND RARE LARGE TUBE SCIENTIFIC BAROMETER, ATTRIBUTED TO TROUGHTON & SIMMS, LONDON, CIRCA 1850 the ¾in. curved glass tube with U-bend, largely encased with lacquered brass and with cork stopper, mounted on hinged wooden display board with inset scales with vernier and magnifier with rack-and-pinion adjustment, Fahrenheit thermometer with silvered scale – 42½in. (108cm.) highFootnote: The wide tube on this instrument allows for precise measurements to be recorded as the mercury will even to a flat surface.Condition report: Good overall condition. Mercury drained (for reasons of weight) but available. Both tubes later replacement.

A BULKHEAD CLOCK AND BAROMETER SET FROM H.M.S. EXETER the clock (unsigned) with 6½in. enamel dial with single winding arbour to 8-day fusee movement numbered on the backplate 17529 and scratch inscribed Exeter with service dates '4/29; 10/32; 11/37'; the aneroid barometer with 6½in. enamel dial signed John Boyd, Glasgow, each contained within a brass drum bulkhead case and mounted on a wooden display base with brass provenance plaque and clock key (barometer glass cracked) the board -- 14½ x 31¾in. (37 x 80.5cm.)Footnote: Launched in July 1929, Exeter came into prominence at the battle of the River Plate which ended in the destruction of the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee, in December 1939. Having sustained the full weight of the enemy's heavy guns until her consorts, Ajax and Achillies, arrived, Exeter scraped through with four of her six 8in. guns out of action and her steering gear smashed. Limping to Port Stanley for emergency repairs which took until January 1940, she was fully repaired and modernised at H.M. Dockyard, Devonport between 14 February 1940 and 10 March 1941 when it seems this fusée clock was updated for the newer going barrel type. Exeter returned to service in Far Eastern waters and was sunk in the Second Battle of the Java Sea, 1st March, 1942.

A late William IV/early Victorian mahogany marine barometerBy A. R. Easton, Aberdeen With ivory scales, foliate carved trunk and brass gimbal mount99cm high Condition Report The barometer is in good condition. The trunk has been re-polished. The gimbal mount does not appear to be the original and is likely to be a replacement. The gimbal brass work is tarnished. The mounting ring on the trunk is discoloured with some spotting.The tube is a good fit to either side of the scales and the mercury column is approximately 1/3rd. of its width. There is an old small repair to the lower right hand dial moulding. The reservoir brass work is an attractive dark straw colour.
A group of three 19th century rosewood wall barometers including one by Stafford, the longest, 102cm, (3). Condition Report Maker's name in the upper part of the dial is ELTON and 'Stafford is read on the lower half of the dial. This barometer also has intact tubes. One other barometer has no tubes and the third has partial tubes.
A George III mahogany bow-front barometerBy Adie & Son, EdinburghThe 8in silvered scale with vernier above the trunk with inset thermometer99cm high Condition Report The barometer is in good working condition. The pediment block is a slightly different colour than the stem and there is a new brass hook for hanging. Both silvered scales are tarnished. The bow front fillet below the main dial is a different colour, more orange as is the base fillet. New brass screwed strap across back of cistern cover. Marks and scratches across trunk consistent with age.
A Victorian walnut wheel barometer with 8in silvered dial signed 'W. H. YOUNG BOSTON' 95cm high. Condition Report The barometer is in unrestored condition. The tube is not broken. There is a part of the applied scroll on top left which is lost, see main image. The right hand side of the thermometer case has become loose, the glue has failed. This part and the glass we have. Attractive figuring in the wood, some marks and knocks consistent with age. No hard marker adjuster knob.
A George III mahogany stick barometerBy Cary, LondonWith arched silvered scale96cm high Condition Report The stick barometer is in good overall condition. It has probably been repolished at some stage but some time ago. The silvered scale is clear and not bright. The cistern cover is a little loose and the lower oulding has lost some sections (see image). The fillet edge has some slight chipping to its corners.

The tube appears to be a replacement. There is a small section of outlining on the bottom right which has been replaced. The case has been cleaned and polished.
