Stokes & Watson, Manchester, Victorian oak aneroid barometer, the signed 7 inch silvered dial within an acorn and oak leaf frame, verso stamped 186, 31cm. The firm Stokes & Watson, 6 Market Street, Manchester were in business from the 1860's until the early 20th century. They were typical opticians of the period and made and/or sold a variety of instruments including microscopes, microscope slides, lantern slides, camera lenses, gramophone cylinder recordings, binoculars, barometers and eyeglasses. Cosmetically in good condition, showing only several tiny chips/nicks to the edges of the leaf/acorn carved decoration. Unable to confirm its fully working, although it appears complete
A George IV mahogany and ebony wheel barometer by Deards of Harlow, the ebony swan's neck pediment over an ebony strung case with silvered hygrometer, mercury thermometer, 7¾in. dial and signed level, 39¼in. (99.7cm.) high. * Condition: In good condition. A couple of minor worn spots to silvering on main dial. No other faults.
An early 19th century mahogany stick barometer, the case with visible cane and boxwood strung head with lancet top, the unsigned, arched silvered dial with scale 27 to 31 and floral chased decoration, with turned cistern cover, 37 ½in. (95.25cm.) high, air bubbles in mercury. * Condition: There are some air bubbles trapped inside the mercury. Dial lacks top screw to fix to case. Case shows evidence of repolishing - some polish residue to dial.
