A pair of Japanese earthenware baluster vases, Meiji/Taish? period, decorated on-glaze with polychrome enamels, 49cm h, a key-wind clockwork penguin automaton, a Victorian EPNS swing handle cake basket, an oak circular barometer, etc The vases crazed, one rim cracked, each with further slight condition issues, but standing stable. The penguin defective. Everything else in mixed condition, but mostly good.
AN ORMOLU AND SILVERED KETTLE DRUM BAROMETER ATTRIBUTED TO J.J HICKS, 19TH CENTURY, RETAILED BY T.K AUSTIN & CO., DUBLIN the angled silvered dial and bezel within a simulated drum case, supported on x-framed ormolu stand and onyx plinth base. 21.5cm high Kettle Drum Barometers of exactly this design are known from marked examples by James Joseph Hicks (1837 - 1916) Haton Gardens, London. Hicks who was born in Rosscarbery, Co. xcork was one of the leading suppliers of barometers and thermometers in London in the last quarter of the 19th century.
A miscellaneous collection of items including a well worn Scottish terrier, a doll dressed in woolly chaps, an Indian doll, a very well worn koala bear in a pink wool jumper, an oak wall barometer, all contained in a wicker basket, Union Jack flags a Damascus box, riding crop etc in a further box.
