Important Special Air Service Regt. Report (SAS) "Interim Report on Missing Personnel of the 2nd Special Air Service Regt. Captured by the Germans in Eastern France in the Autumn of 1944", Copy No 11 Noted as written at Gaggenau, Baden 15th July 1945 and appears to have been printed there. This Report Compiled by an investigation team headed by Major E.A.Barkworth 2nd SAS Regiment contains the evidence surrounding the execution after capture of a number of SAS soldiers. These men parachuted into the Vosges Mountains between August and October 1944 and undertook operations (including "Loyton") to encourage the Maquis and undermine the Germans. Unfortunately Allied progress in France had reached an impasse and the Germans, aware of the SAS presence made every effort to destroy them. The report includes detailed witness statements, including some of those accused of the crime, with a number of "real" photographs (some graphic) after bodies were exhumed and also of Germans who participated and plans of burial sites. 31pp., Noted as copy no 11 with a print run of only 25 copies and as indicated in distribution list was in the possession of Captain Christopher Sykes an ex-SAS participant in these operations. This is an extremely rare, if disturbing, item, representing an important piece of SAS history. Supported by a copy of "Four Studies in Loyalty" by Christopher Sykes himself a member of the SAS team in Eastern France in 1944, (The final chapter describes the mission in some detail), together with two linen "escape maps" 43/B & 43/C of the Eastern area of France.
