ATTRIBUTED TO OMAR RAMSDEN: FIRE OPAL PENDANT, CIRCA 1925The foliate shield-form pendant, set with oval, circular and step-cut fire opals, issuing a similarly-cut fire opal drop, mounted in gold, to a curb-link chain, unsigned, lengths: pendant 7.5cm, chain 45.0cm, fitted case by Omar RamsdenFootnotes:Omar Ramsden (1873–1939) was British silversmith and one of England's most noteworthy silverware designers. Ramsden collaborated for many years with his classmate Alwyn Carr (1872–1940), completing their first major work in 1898 when they won a competition to design a mace for the new City of Sheffield. They immediately set up a studio together under the name of 'Ramsden & Carr', working in Chelsea, Battersea and eventually Fulham, before their partnership dissolved in 1919. Ramsden continued designing alone and worked in a distinctive Medieval Revival style. His pieces are typically, but not always, signed 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT' (Omar Ramsden made me).
