A SUBSTANTIAL OPAL NECKLACE mounted in 15ct gold throughout with delicate multi claw crown settings. The largest opal has the dimensions of 11.6mm x 13.8mm x 4.1mm, with a further fourteen opals of decreasing size to the smallest 5.6mm x 6.9mm x 3mm, the orange jelly opals have lovely colour play of blue/purple and green with a little red. Length of the gem set area 18cm, length of the chain & necklace in total 37.5cm, weight 14.2gms. In original box from Richard Ogden's, 41 Duke Street, St. James' London SW1. Condition Report:"Stamped 15ct to the clasp, this is the only hallmark and all they are legally obliged to do. the clasp is soldered to the chain, there is no doubt in my mind that the entire item is 15ct gold. There are no chipped opals, one has an internal crack but this is stable and not noticeable without a 20x loope, it certainly does not go right through. Please see photos. This is the only damage, this necklace has been really well looked after. There was maybe a pendant that originally hung from the largest stone as there is a redundant loop. There are a few very tiny surface reaching inclusions, none are really eye visible, all are very well matched, with a wonderful orangy pinkish glow when light shines through them.Condition report images are as follows;- Hallmark, orange glow, then the last five are of the only crack and inclusions*It is not possible to take a photo of it being worn, it doesn't fit any of us!"
A BLACK OPAL & DIAMOND RING set with an estimated approx 12.5mm x 10mm x 3.1mm, black opal, flanked by tow estimated approx 0.10cts brilliant cut diamonds. Finger size approx N, weight 3.7gms Condition Report:The mark on the stone is the matrix of the opal (the stone that surrounds the opal formation..), as it was set with this present, I would think the gem cutter thought it probably went in quite deep and if they tried to remove it, a substantial part of the opal would be removed too, so they left it as is. So no, I don't think it could be removed, slight not eye visible scratches probably from manufacture, not damage. Diamonds bright and clean, mount all good, light general wear.
A BLACK OPAL PENDANT WITH SIMILAR RING the pendant mounted in 9ct gold appears to be a solid piece of opal, with matrix to the back. Dimensions 18mm x 15mm x 5.4mm. The 15ct gold ring is set with a similar coloured opal doublet, finger size N, weight combined 7.8gms Condition Report:small chips to the edge of the opal in the ring, and all over cracks between the layer and the matrix, see photos for clarity.
