Black Yowah Boulder OpalA superb black piece of boulder opal from the Yowah Field, Queensland, Australia, polished on both sides. 45 grams, 54 mm. (2 1/4"). Ex Douglas Rose collection; ex Crystal Classics (with bill of sale and label). Boulder opal consists of concretions and fracture fillings in a dark siliceous ironstone matrix. It is found sporadically in western Queensland, from Kynuna in the north to Yowah and Koroit in the south. Its largest quantities are found around Jundah and Quilpie (known as the home of the Boulder Opal).Very fine condition. Unusual specimen, polished on both sides.Starting Price: £200
Collection of Polished OpalsA group of polished opals in freeform cuts, in a mixture of colour and clarity. 3.27 grams (16.35 carats total), 9-16 mm. (1/2 - 3/4"). Ex Douglas Rose collection. Opal`s internal structure makes it diffract light; depending on the conditions in which it formed it can take on many colors. Opal ranges from clear through white, gray, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, rose, pink, slate, olive, brown, and black. Of these hues, the reds against black are the most rare, whereas white and greens are the most common.[8]Very fine condition. All natural (no doublets or triplets).Starting Price: £100
