HMS Opal also suffered the same fate and the total loss of life from the two destroyers was 188, with 1 survivor; Arthur Hughes was Assistant Baker aboard SS Arabic, a passenger liner, belonging to the White Star Line. She was torpedoed by German submarine U24 off Kinsale, Ireland. 44 lives (from 434) were lost on 19.08.1915 quite near to where Lusitania was sunk by U20. Arabic was not on war service but had remained a commercial liner.
