Victorian opal and diamond crescent brooch with nine oval cabochon opals interspaced by old cut diamonds in gold setting with pierced gallery in a fitted leather box retailed by Goldsmiths & Silversmith Company Ltd, London. Brooch approximately 27mm diameter.Condition report: The brooch is in excellent original condition. The largest opal measures approximately 5.4mm x 4mm and graduate to the smallest at approximately 2.5mm. The opals are all in excellent condition and display a very good play of colour with pink, blue and green tones. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 0.25cts. The setting is in very good condition commensurate with age, the brooch fitting works well, there is a further screw thread for a further detachable fitting which is no longer present, possible that the brooch fitting is altered and should have also been detachable. Not hallmarked but probably 18ct gold. Gross weight approximately 4.1grams.The box appears to be the original box for the brooch. The box is in fair condition but the spring catch doesn't work properly. The leather is worn commensurate with age.
