An Edwardian carved pendant framed hall barometer with a compensated Aneroid movement by the German maker Julius Gischard, open porcelain four-and-a-half-inch dial measuring barometric air pressure from twenty-seven to thirty-one point nine inches, weather predictions written in upper and lower case gothic script with initial letters highlighted in red, blue steel indicating hand and brass recording hand, dial bezel with flat bevelled glass, mercury thermometer recording temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius, scale written in red Arabic numerals on an unglazed opal plate with arched crest above, Julius Gischard was one of the five traditional Hamburg barometer manufacturers whose history dates back to the 19th century, founded in 1874 by Christian Julius Friedrich Gischard and his companion J. Heinrich Saul, the company manufactured and exported many barometers to England during the 19th and 20th century.
