A .56" ordnance pattern commercial flintlock holster pistol, c 1820, 15" overall, barrel 9" with B’ham proofs; flat stepped lock with safety bolt, raised pan and ring neck cock, the plate engraved with simple sunburst and lined border; walnut fullstock with regulation pattern brass mounts including 1796 pattern throat pipe and steel ramrod. GWO & C, dark patina to the lock and barrel (small chips to butt). An untouched piece. £600-700
A Belgian 6 shot 12mm Lefaucheux double action pinfire revolver, number 248465, c 1868, round barrel 157mm, the breech stamped with crown over “EL” mark, and with bayonet bar beneath the muzzle, Liege proved, the cylinder bearing what appears to be an ordnance inspector’s small mark of crown over “EL” over “68” (1868?), plain apart from a dog tooth border around the frame, with chequered walnut grips and lanyard ring. WO & GC (requires attention on single action, slightly worn overall) £180-220.

Although the East and Central Africa medal was normally issued with one or more clasps, at least three British recipients are confirmed as receiving no clasp medals. Alfred William Stong was born in Dublin, and attested for the Corps of Armourers in January 1891, after serving an apprenticeship in London as a Gunsmith. He served for several years in India before he was posted for service with the Uganda Rifles, taking part in operations in Uganda and Somaliland in 1898-99 (Medal). He was briefly posted for duty with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in July 1900 before being posted for duty with the Ashanti Field Force two months later, for a period of four months during the operations of the Ashanti Expedition in West Africa (Medal). He next spent a year in Hong Kong followed by another five years in India, before returning home in December 1907. In 1909 he received his L.S. & G.C. medal, and in January 1912 he was discharged having completed 21 years service. On the outbreak of war in 1914, he rejoined on the 14th September and served in France from March 1915 to January 1916, with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force for two months, and in France again from February 1916 to March 1919. He was finally discharged on 4 April 1919. Sold with full service details and copied discharge papers.

Hughes, Royal Army Service Corps who received his award when driving the Colonel's car he ran into a German post, but acted so promptly that the car was successfully turned and driven off. Military Medal, G.VI.R. (T/79272 Dvr. C.W. Hughes. R.A.S.C.) 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, Efficiency Medal Territorial, G.VI.R., with 'Territorial' scroll bar (79272 Sjt. C.W. Hughes. M.M. R.E.M.E.), good very fine, with original service book and record of service cardQty: (5)NOTESMM London Gazette 20 August 1940 7972 Sergeant Cyril William Hughes (1918-1998). A metallurgical chemist by trade, Hughes enlisted in the Territorial Army on 24 April 1939, and served in Belgium and France 1939-40. The Birmingham Mail (17 March 1941) reported: "Two young Birmingham soldiers were recently decorated by the King with the Military Medal. Driver C.W. Hughes, of the R.A.S.C., whose home is at 113 Frankley Beeches Road, Northfield. He is a grandson of the famous Birmingham medallist, the late Joseph Moore, whose portrait and collection of works were removed from the Art Gallery to Aston Hall a few years ago. He is 21 and earned his decoration for meritorious conduct during the fighting in Flanders last year. When driving the Colonel's car he ran into a German post but acted so promptly that the car was successfully turned and driven off. Joining the Territorials before the war, Driver Hughes went to France at Christmas 1939 and was there until the evacuation from Dunkirk. His father is also serving his country for, as a naval pensioner, he rejoined the Royal Navy after the outbreak of war and is now serving as a chief petty officer writer." Hughes transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on 12 March 1942 and transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 1 October 1942, he was discharged from service on 1 July 1946.

Approximately 94 David and Charles maps - all reprints of the first edition of the one-inch Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales. 76 are unopened and in their original packets, and their condition is presumed as good. The other 18 maps have been removed from their packaging and some have minor creasing to corners of the front and/or backs.
