British WWII and post war Lightweight Velocity Recorder IPC/76/047. weight 30.5 lbs, NSN 6625-99-924-8200, this used to calculate the velocity of depth charges from Dreadnought and Class ships, an interesting design in the style of a fishing reel that records the speed of the which the ordnance drops and as to where is has fallen in order to make sure the delivery systems are working properly on board the ships. Excellent condition however some internal pieces missing this piece of equipment is near complete in its original wooden box.

A FINE AND RARE SECOND QUARTER OF THE 19TH CENTURY BRASS-BOUND MAHOGANY MARINE CHRONOMETER OF ONE DAY DURATIONJohn Roger Arnold, London, No 554The case with protected corners, twin handles and an ivory name plaque (previously marked with the Ordnance arrow), the signed and numbered 3 inch silvered dial with outer minute track and Roman hours encircling the subsidiaries for power reserve and running seconds, with blued steel hands protected by a domed glass secured via a bayonet fitting, the signed and numbered chain fusee movement with maintaining power and freesprung cut and compensated bimetallic balance with blued steel helical spring to an Earnshaw type detent escapement, signed J R Arnold, London, Invt et Fecit No 554 and previously marked with the ordnance arrow, set in a weighted gimballed bowl with sprung winding cover and forked securing bracket, a winding key set in a bracket to the corner. CARL ZEISS, JENA A RARE PAIR OF 12x60 INCLINED FLAK RANGING BINOCULARS WITH TRIPOD, serial no. 258971, circa 1943, with slightly tapering and truncated one-piece body, the last 5 1/4in. breaking open on a top-mounted catch and containing a narrow aperture light filter operated via a rotating catch, the top of main body mounted with an offset open sight and spirit level, bakelite knobs for fixing to a tripod, coloured filters and possibly illumination, the rear concave padded leather eye-guard opening to reveal the eye-pieces, the underside with a trapezoid bracket for a tripod, the whole finished in its original German Ordnance Tan paint and marked with a red band around the observation lens guard together with various use instructions, complete with its original Zeiss wood tripod marked 'CARL ZEISS JENA' along one leg in large applied letters (letter I of Zeiss absent), the brass head-mount marked in 360 degree increments and fitted with an aluminium mounting plate, the whole swivelling via rotating locking knobs, bakelite elevation adjustment and complete with leather carry strap and ocular leather guard, the binoculars 17 1/4in. overall, height of tripod collapsed 44in., weight complete approx. 25lbs..

19th / early 20th century Ordnance Survey style maps to include a cloth version 'Map of the Parish of Stratton in the County of Dorset, Buxton and Matlock OS map sheet 111, Derbyshire sheet SK 16 NE, a Derbyshire County Council map and another similar item (5). Condition as you'd expect. Approx size 90 x 74cm. The cloth example is slightly bigger.
An original WWI First World War British Armed Forces artillery brass trench art shell case of an ' Ordnance QF 18 Pounder ' field gun. Dated 1915 with the broad arrow stamp and makers mark E. W. B & Co ( E. W. Bliss Company ) to the centre. The outer shell has rectangular brass plague to the face depicting an artillery cannon and a palm tree with the words ' Romani Egypt 1916 ' likely referencing The Battle Of Romani on the Suez Canal. Measures approx 29x10cm. An interesting display piece.

Coded in bottom l/h corner GS GS (General Staff Geographical Section) 2742 and published by the Ordnance Survey December 1916. On folding linen. Scale 1:20,000. Size 89 by 65 cm. Detailed key. Original owner’s name to reverse. The owner served in the Durham Light Infantry and the Northumberland Fusiliers, and was wounded in France- British Army map of Amiens, published by the Ordnance Survey, Southampton for the Geographical Section General Staff 1916. Code 2364 to bottom left corner. On folding linen size 88 by 66 cm. Scale 1:100,000. Key gives information on many geographical features and has an explanation of French names for them. Soldier’s name in pencil above front cover.
WHITE CAPTAIN T. P. Album of Original Drawings. 46 pen & ink sketches & drawings, one or two coloured, some monogrammed & mainly captioned. Laid onto 28 thick paper sheets (one-side only with one exception). Quarto. Well worn bdg., c.1870's. White was a surveyor employed by the Ordnance Survey. He published folio vols. on the archaeological remains of Kintyre, Knapdale & Gigha (see previous lot 6). Some of these drawings appear in these works but others are unpublished. A good example of a 19th century artist's / archaeologist's working sketch book.
