A 14 bore brass barrelled flintlock coaching carbine, by Sandwell (Stephen Sandwell, London), c 1775, 32” overall, 3 stage barrel 16½” with muzzle ring and octagonal breech with Tower private and maker’s proofs, and engraved with foliate border and ‘London’; slightly rounded lock with swan neck cock, the plate re-engraved ‘Sandwell’; walnut fullstock with brass mounts including flower engraved trigger guard, engraved butt plate tang, and ordnance style wavy sideplate; with replacement brass tipped ramrod. A 10 bore India Pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket, c 1800, 55” overall, barrel 39” with ordnance proofs and engraved ‘I. ‘MLLM’ (Mid-Lothian Local Militia ?); rounded lock with swan neck cock, the plate stamped with crown over ‘GR’ and ‘Tower’ and with ordnance viewers mark; walnut fullstock, the butt bearing small crowned crossed sceptres mark and broad arrow over ‘BO’; with regulation brass mounts, sling swivels, and original steel ramrod. A good .56” Tower long Sea Service flintlock belt pistol, 19½” overall, barrel 12” with Tower proofs, the lock with line engraved border and marked with crowned ‘GR’, ‘Tower’, and ordnance inspectors mark; walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts, steel belt hook, and brass tipped ramrod, the butt with traces of ordnance storekeeper’s mark. GWO & Clean condition (small flaw to stock behind barrel tang). See front cover. .
An unusual small late 18th century brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss, 16” overall, 2 stage bell mouth barrel 6¾”, being nearly 1¾” at the muzzle, a raised panel at the breech stamped ‘J. Finch/ N.York’ in oval, and with spurious crown over ‘GR’; stepped lock with pigeon breasted cock, stamped ‘T. Ketland & Co’ (the last part indistinct), dark walnut fullstock with brass mounts, including French style trigger guard, British ordnance pattern side plate recently machine engraved with serial number 0010320, and apparently originally having a belt hook; with brass tipped ebony ramrod. Generally GC (age wear and patina overall, action fails to hold on full cock, lock lightly pitted).
