ORDNANCE SURVEY Four Ordnance Survey folding maps, circa 1880-87, one-inch-to-one-mile, linen-backed and hand-coloured, retailed by James Wyld, in dark blue cloth pockets with onlaid area key; together with another, circa 1867, uncoloured, similarly retailed by James Wyld, in a grey cloth pocket, (5).

ORDNANCE SURVEY Nine Ordnance Survey folding maps, undated [circa 1890], 'new 1 inch', linen-backed and hand-coloured, retailed by Edward Stanford, with onlaid labels; together with another, 1912 edition, six-inches-to-one-mile, uncoloured, retailed by Sifton, Praed & Co.; and another, one-inch-to-one-mile, 1906, with standard cream covers, (11).
[DOCUMENTS]. MILITARY A manuscript receipt, dated 30th June 1702, relating to an issue of fifty snaphance muskets from Her Majesty's Stores, Portsmouth, to 'my Lord Shannon's Regiment', signed 'T. Markham', 17.5cm x 15cm, framed and glazed; together with a manuscript Office of Ordnance issue order, dated 13th June 1712, relating to corn powder and musket shot, for the 'Marq: de Montandres Regiment', 31cm x 19.5cm, framed and glazed, (2).

The first being a circa 1912 Ordnance Survey 'Cotswold Hunt Map" Part 216,217,234 and 235, lower margin reads 'Printed Especially for Cotswold Hunt', approx 50 x 56 cms, glazed and framed, an early aerial view of Cheltenham High Street, published 1824 by G.A. Williams Librarian Cheltenham, approx 61 x 34 cms, glazed and framed and "Town of Cheltenham" by Edward Mitchell, approx 60 x 44 cms, glazed and framed. (3)

Group of military and other watches and parts to include; Carley and Clemence Ltd MII number 3081905 base metal stopwatch with white Arabic dial with subsidiary dial at 12, Broad Arrow Ordnance mark to case back, together with a cased compass, wristwatch with black dial, a Smiths black Arabic dial, perhaps for a cockpit clock etc Condition:
A .65” William IV Light Dragoon flintlock pistol, 15” overall, barrel 9” with Enfield ordnance proofs (worn); stepped line engraved lock having raised pan and safety bolt and stamped with crown over “WR”; walnut fullstock with faint broad arrow over “BO” mark on the butt; with regulation brass mounts and swivel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (top jaw and screw replaced, filled hole through the butt). Plate 31
A .65” William IV Light Dragoon flintlock pistol of the Hampshire (?) Yeomanry Cavalry, 15” overall, barrel 9” with Enfield ordnance proof; stepped line engraved lock having raised pan and safety bolt and stamped with crown over “WR”; walnut fullstock stamped with broad arrow over “BO”, inspector’s marks, and contractor’s name “Bond”; with regulation brass mounts, trigger guard stamped “HYC” over “8”, with swivel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (dark finish to lock and barrel, the latter with some light pitting) Plate 31
A scarce ordnance New Land Pattern type conversion of an East India Company 1778 pattern .65” short cavalry pistol, 15” overall, barrel 9” with London and maker’s proofs and engraved with EIC heart mark and “Wilson 1802”; the flat unlined lock engraved “Wilson” and “1802” over the EIC heart mark; nicely figured walnut fullstock also stamped with the heart mark (worn), “B/50” behind the barrel tang, and “W/57” behind the tail of the lock; brass mounts of standard pattern but with the removal of the ramrod pipe and addition of a brass fore end cap and sheet brass reinforcement below the fore end, also the addition of a swivel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition with dark patina to the lock and barrel (some age and surface wear overall, the frizzen refaced during its service life) Plate 31
A 16 bore “Plymouth Dock” flintlock holster pistol, probably c 1840, assembled at the time from diverse parts, 15” overall, 9¼” barrel from a New Land pattern pistol, with ordnance proofs and engraved “Plymouth Dock”; the plain military style lock of robust form, with flat ring neck cock, and signed “J. Doidge”; walnut fullstock with flat sided rounded butt, French style brass trigger guard, and replacement ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition with dark patina to the lock (ramrod pipe worn). Plate 32 Note: Doidge was a sword cutler but made firearms at the time of the Napoleonic invasion threat, possibly only for one year.
An interesting .65” East India Company 1811 pattern flintlock cavalry pistol, purchased by the Board of Ordnance and re-issued to the Northumberland and Newcastle Volunteers, 15” overall, barrel 9” with London proofs and traces of regimental number “C57”; flat line engraved lock stamped with the rampant lion mark and “1813”; walnut fullstock with regulation brass mounts, trigger guard engraved with “NNV” over “C57”; with true “stirrup” ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (slightly worn overall, filled hole through the fore end) Plate 34 Note: The Northumberland and Newcastle Volunteers were called out to aid the civil powers in 1822 during riots by the Tyne Keelmen, and in 1831 during the pitmens’ strikes.
A good steel barrelled flintlock sea service blunderbuss, c 1765, from the Warwick Castle Collection, 39½” overall, swamped barrel 23” with London proofs and ordnance board viewer’s mark; line engraved rounded lock with swan neck cock, plate engraved “Brooks” and “Tower” and struck with ordnance lock viewer’s mark; plain walnut fullstock with brass mounts, including flat butt plate, trigger guard with domed circular finial and large flat wavy sideplate; brass tipped ramrod of the correct type. Good Working Order and Clean Condition (lock markings faint). Plate 37 Note: Originally made as a “Black Sea Service” weapon with draw filed black finish, but struck down and polished bright, possibly during its service life.
A good rare 1718 pattern naval brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss, 44½” overall, the earlier bell mouth barrel having raised ring and sighting notch at the breech, and struck with William III proof marks, maker’s mark of crown over “PB”, number “43”, and small cock, bevelled pan, and unbridled frizzen, plate engraved with crown over “GR” and “Rose 1739” (apparently altered from earlier “20”, for 1720), and struck with ordnance lock viewer’s mark; walnut fullstock, butt with clear deeply struck ordnance store keeper’s mark, with brass mounts, including flat butt plate and trigger guard with circular finial. Good Working Order and Clean untouched Condition, with a later brass tipped ramrod. Plate 37
