A late 18th Century 15-Bore Dublin Castle flintlock light Dragoon pistol. Stamped with ordnance marks with plain barrel and tang, the lock side plate with crowned G. R. cypher, Dublin Castle and engraved border, walnut stock with brass furniture including trigger guard engraved F G 14, fitted with a brass tipped ram rod.Barrel 23cm long, 40cm long overall.
A 5 shot 54 bore Ordnance Issue Beaumont Adams DA revolver, the frame engraved with broad arrow and “WD” and “B1940/ Adams’ Patent No 17268R” (worn), the cylinder also engraved “No 17,268R”, the top strap engraved “Adams & Compy London”, with chequered walnut butt. Basically GC (worn and partly refinished, action AF, small parts missing) Plate 9
A 16 bore New Land Pattern flintlock holster pistol, 15” overall, barrel 9” with ordnance proofs, the flat line engraved lock stamped “REA”, the walnut fullstock bearing ordnance inspectors mark and 1805 storekeeper’s mark, with regulation brass mounts. GWO & C (worn with some light pitting, the ramrod and swivels well replaced, top jaw and screw crude old replacements)
A French cuirassier broadsword, double fullered blade 37½”, marked “Mfture Imple du Klingenthal Octobre 18”(? last two unclear) on backstrap, ordnance stamps at forte, brass hilt, the guard without reinforced edge, knucklebow and 3 sidebars, with stamps, plain cap shaped pommel, leather grips, in its steel scabbard (AF). Basically GC (worn overall)
A .577” Volunteer 3 band Enfield pattern percussion short rifle by Hollis & Sheath, c 1860, 51½” overall, barrel 36” with B’ham proofs and 3 groove rifling, the lock engraved “Hollis & Sheath, Makers to Her Majesty’s War Department”, the walnut fullstock having regulation brass mounts, the underside of the butt stamped “Hollis & Sheath” and with crowned “H&S” ordnance type inspector’s mark, the original steel ramrod with interesting composition muzzle plug/ ramrod guard stamped “W...Ebonite”, with sling swivels, nipple protector on chain, and later buff leather sling. GWO & C, the bore clean (hammer replaced, dark patina with some pitting to steel parts, the mounts polished bright and lacquered). Plate 11

WW2 Home Front Auxiliary Bomb Disposal Unit Enamel Lapel Badge, being a fine gilt and enamel lapel badge worn by members of the unit from a Royal Ordnance Factory (R.O.F). Badge has lapel fitting to the reverse. One very small area of enamel scuffing between the I and S of DISPOSAL. “Doing their Bit – Home Front Lapel Badges 1939-1945” by Jon Mills, page 108 gives full details of this unit and page 111 has this actual badge illustrated.

CONDITION REPORT: Generally well preserved collection with just a few sheets with closed tears along folds, small stains, stamps etc.

A leather bound account of the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, Zululand, 22nd January 1879, by Captn. Penn Symons, 2nd 24th Regt. The account details the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift from a first hand perspective and subsequently from the few remaining survivors of both battles who are included in the list of survivors of 1/24th Regt; Pte. Williams, groom to Col. Glynn, Pte. Bickley, band member, Pte. Wilson, band member, Pte. Trainer, rocket battery, Pte. Johnson, rocket battery, Pte. Grant, mounted infantry and officers who escaped to include; Capt. Essex 75 Regt., Capt. Gardener, 14th Hussars, Lieut. Cachrane 32 Regt. Lieut. Smith Dorrien, 95th Regt and Lieut. Curling R.A. William Penn Symons (July 1843- October 1899) was a British army officer who lost his life at the battle of Talana Hill during the second Boer war. His first combat was in South Africa during the 9th Xhosa war (1877-78). In 1879 he took part in the Zulu wars which this book documents, the merest chance saved him form death at Isandlwana, also a linen map 'Ground near Petersfield Autumn Maneuvers 1891'.
