A nice quality, late Victorian era studio portrait of a military bandsman. The photograph as been hand coloured / painted, to highlight his red tunic, ‘swallow nests’ to his shoulders, and the green facings to his tunic. He is pictured wearing the standard Home Service pattern helmet with spike. The detail of his helmet plate is unclear, but it could possibly be the Army Ordnance Department. Over his shoulder is strung a bugle, and he holds a pair of drumsticks, with a drum positioned to his left hand side. The photograph is housed in a gilt frame, with a fabric mount surrounding the photo. Approximately 35.9cm x 31.4cm frame size, image size 13.3cm x 9.5cm. Condition: generally good. The photo is clear, but there is some foxing. The painted details are quite vivid, but when looked at under magnification there is some crazing to the painted surface.
