"Maps of the Society for the diffusion of useful knowledge Volume II", London, Chapman & Hall 1844, one further volume (possibly Volume I), plus "Cassells New Atlas", 2nd Edition. and an Ordnance Survey folding map of the Isle of Wight CONDITION REPORTS Cassells Atlas : in very poor condition, very damaged pages fallen out of spine and covers broken and with losses, stains, etc. - not known whether complete or not. "Maps of the Society ..." : covers separated, spine broken, various tears, stains, damage and losses, also yellowing, foxing and stains to pages and to most maps although maps generally appear in reasonable condition and include a lot of town plans, majority of town plans appear to be in reasonably good order (but all with various stains, yellowing, etc.), but there are some with damage including Turin which has a large hole to it and large tears, and some others with smaller tears. One of the volumes has burn marks to top and throughout, and various areas of damage, loss, stains, discolouration etc., both volumes have various areas which appear to have been reinforced and some large fabric areas so may have been re-bound at some stage in the past but now in need of restoration.

Bogdani & Jeaffreson Miles to Robert Eddowes (2) and to the "Respective Officers of His Majesty's Ordnance", 3pp. with conjugate blanks and address panels 12th December 1751 , 6th July 1752 & 17th February 1753, on a variety of naval matters, including: Owlers, "His Majesty's Ship the Sea-horse and Savage Sloop which are employ'd in cruizing against the Owlers being Ordered to be refitted for the future ", refitting, "The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty have been acquainted with your complaint against the Commanding officer of the Glory for making the Vessel with her Guns and Stores follow her to Sithead, for which behaviour they have reprimanded him ", folds, slighly browned, a few small tears where opened. Owlers - "A person engaged in the illegal exportation of wool or sheep from England. Also: a sailing vessel used for such an activity." - OED.
A 14 bore New Land Pattern type pistol converted to percussion, 15” overall, barrel 9” with traces of ordnance proofs, line engraved lock with no visible markings, fullstocked with regulation brass mounts including 1796 type ramrod pipe, the butt with clear 1800 ordnance storekeeper’s mark. GWO & QGC
A .65” Tower New Land Pattern flintlock holster pistol, 15½” overall, barrel 9” with ordnance proofs, the bolted lock marked “Tower” and with traces of crown and “GR”, fullstocked with regulation brass mounts and swivel ramrod, the butt with 1800 ordnance storekeeper’s mark. GWO & basically GC (worn and rather battered overall) Plate 12
A 10 bore India pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket, 55” overall, barrel 39” with ordnance proofs, the slightly rounded lock with ring neck cock, stamped with crowned “GR” and “Tower”, fullstocked with regulation brass mounts, the butt deeply branded with large number “20” and stamped with broad arrow over “BO” and small date “1831”, with original iron ramrod, the barrel and butt plate tang stamped with Irish registration number. GWO & QGC (crude contemporary repair to broken butt and replacement top jaw and screw) Plate 14
A .577/450” Mark I Martini Henry rifle, 49” overall, barrel 33¼” with ordnance proofs and inspector’s marks (faint), and stamped “NS/NEP” below rearsight, the action marked with crown over “VR./ L.S.A Co/ 1876/ I” (partly restamped), the butt stamped with “Allahabad Arsenal” storekeeper’s mark, “11/94” and “2”, with sling swivels, steel cleaning rod, chequered steel butt plate and sword bayonet lug on top barrel band. GWO & C (slightly worn overall, metalwork lightly refinished). Plate 15
