Early 18th century rustic oak refectory table, circa 1700, three plank top, on four chamfered legs, of good colour and patination, approx 215 l x 85 w x 77h cms, purchased from Fenwick and Fenwick Antiques Broadway. This lot includes a Harlequin set of eight ashwood rush seated, ladder back chairs, of good colour, comfortable seating, circa 1790, purchased from Fenwick and Fenwick Antiques Broadway. HERSCHEL, John Frederick William (1792-1871) A rare photographic print of William Herschel’s 40-foot telescope at Slough, Berkshire, assembled in 1787 & dismantled in 1839. This 92mm dia. silver print is taken from J. F. W. Herschel’s original glass negative taken in 1839, mounted on a printed surround with title & description of the innovative process of producing the glass negative, one of only 25 produced in August 1890, in a wooden frame constructed from the original ladder rungs which formed part of the telescope’s supports, with original printed descriptive page pasted to the back, also the label of Ryman & Co. of Oxford; 38 x 48.5cm over-all.
