Lot 255

BSA Long Lee Enfield .303 bolt action rifle, serial number M84422625, 30inch barrel with folding ladder sight secured by two bands, the knox form stamped Fultons with Birmingham proof marks, fitted with dust cover to bolt, calibrated volley sights, the magazine secured with chain loop and fitted with cutoff. UK FIREARMS LICENCE WITH .303 RIFLE VARIATION OR RFD REQUIRED. 126cm long The rifle is in so called sleeper condition and does not look like it has been fired in a long time. The bore is very worn, whilst the rifling remains, it is very soft at the edges, especially at the throat area, it is a little stronger towards the muzzle but still shows some signs of wear. The bolt functions correctly, although the hammer needs to be pulled rearward slightly in order to engage the safety catch. The bolt face has a light primer pocket ring to it. The exterior of the rifle has a dark brown patina generally with light overall pitting. There are small areas of the gun where there is heavier pitt marks such as to the wrist joint and the barrel bands. There is some scratch marks to the metal and other usage marks. The stock is free from cracks or repairs however there are a large number of scratches, dents, and other marks. The underside of the forend has a long score mark to it from the barrel band being slid along the wood for removal. The top hand guard is lacking on of the retaining springs and consequently lifts up and off the barrel far to easily when any pressure is applied.

The rifling is very soft just ahead of the chamber from corrosive ammunition being used, it improves towards the muzzle where they rifling is better defined but there is still some signs of wear. There is no pitting. The external finish is generally all present but has worn away in some exposed areas mainly on the barrel where light pitting can be seen.There is some light surface corrosion spots that can be seen to the rest of the metalwork. The action works correctly and positively, there is a light primer pocket mark to the bolt face. The stock has lots of dents, scratches and marks but no splits or repairs.

The bore is good with a decent rifling pattern and reasonably crisp edges to the pattern both at the throat and at the muzzle. The crown is good without damages. The action works correctly however is a little stiffer to operate than some and perhaps needs some grease or oil. The bluing is largely all there with some small wear patches. There is a patch of small scratches to the action beside the bolt release catch as if someone has used a metal implement to remove the bolt. The stock has a large number of dents and marks but there are no splits or repairs that can be seen.

L.E.I, figured chequered stock with pistol grip and steel butt plate with sprung trap.UK FIREARMS LICENCE WITH .303 RIFLE VARIATION OR RFD REQUIRED. 115cm long Lot 289: The rifle is in fair general condition and is nice a presentable but still showing signs of age and wear. The bore is reasonable with a decent pattern that is starting to soften around the edges from wear. There are no signs of pitting or damage. The metal finish has worn through in several places mainly around the action but there is still plenty of blue on the barrel. There are some minor dents to the foresight bed almost as if someone has tried to tighten up the foresight fitting by hammering it. The action works correctly and positively, there is a minor primer pocket mark. The stock has a chip to the forend on the bolt side at the thinnest part where it meets the barrel. The chequering has been recut. There are no other splits or damages to the woodwork, there are however lots of dents scratches and marks. The forend is a little loose in its fitting.

Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out. 124cm long The rifle is in very good general condition. The bore is excellent with a crisp pattern and no pitting or signs of damage. The action works correctly with a strong spring and the breech locks positively. The polished parts and some blued parts have very light surface speckling and there is some wear to the bluing especially on the trigger guard and butt plate. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are some dents and scratches but nothing defacing.

Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out. 140cm long The gun has had an old refinish to the metal work. This has left some of the engraving light in places such as the lock. The bore has a reasonably good rifling pattern however there is some pitting that can be seen scattered throughout the bore. These patches are relatively light and don't look too deep. The stock has a split on the reverse side to the lock. The stock has had some tru-oil applied and this is a little thick in places. Some careful cutting back of this later applied finish would leave the gun looking a lot better. Some screw heads are chewed from use.
