A .451” Whitworth 3 band percussion target rifle, 52” overall, barrel 36” with Whitworth hexagonal rifling, the breech bearing B’ham 52 bore proofs, serial number “C 832” and engraved “Whitworth Patent”, with folding ladder rearsight graduated from 100 to 1100 yards and the base only of the adjustable fore sight; the bolted lock bearing Whitworth crest over “W” and engraved “Whitworth Rifle Co Manchester”; dark walnut fullstock with deeply chequered fore end grip and wrist, plain steel mounts, the trigger guard strap engraved “Best”, and sling swivels. GWO & C, the metalwork with dark patina (some congealed oil or varnish overall, no ramrod). Plate 8

A gilt-bronze square-headed brooch with applied silver plaques comprising rectangular head-plate, shallow bow, pelta-shaped footplate with lateral panels; the headplate with median square panel and ladder detail, horse-shoe punchmarks to the three sides, applied silver plaques to the corners; the bow pyramidal with applied square button, silver border; the footplate with trilinear volute scrolls and Style I face, silver plaques to the lateral lobes and discoid finial; catchplate and strap to the reverse, ferrous accretion to the headplate. Cf. example from Kenninghall, Norfolk, UK, with similar silver plaques in MacGregor, A. & Bolick, E.
