An 18th Century and later 19th Century refectory table with a rectangular plank top, raised above turned supports and square stretchers, also with ten assorted early 20th Century oak dining chairs in the 18th Century style, comprising of eight side chairs and two carvers with ladder backs and rush filled seats (11) (table - 79cm high x 274cm length x 73cm wide), (side chair - 101cm high x 49cm wide) and (carver chair - 114cm high x 62cm wide)
A pair of Charles Rennie Mackintosh ebonised chairs designed for Miss Cranston's Willow Tearooms circa 1903, each with bowed ladder-back, strengthening bar to top rail above a re-upholstered seat on square legs united by turned stretchers, 104cm (41") high, one chair marked 21 faintly to the corner of the underside of the seat and beneath the back rail, the other marked 82 to the seat and 63 to the rail/Literature: Billcliffe (R), Charles Rennie Mackintosh: The Complete Furniture, Furniture Drawings and Interior Designs, Guildford and London, 1979, pp. 128-129, 132 and Kaplan (W) Charles Rennie Mackintosh, London 1996, pp. 243 and 276/see illustration Condition Report: Both seats re-covered but the oak seat frames are original. The blocking to the corners looks like it is replaced. The ebonising is very worn particularly the front stretchers, corners, base of legs, areas around top rails (extremities). The joints seem sound; there is no real movement within the frame.
