Five Japanese Imari scalloped plates, late Meiji/early Taisho, in typical Imari colours, 21.5 cm diameter. CONDITION REPORT: These are the very bottom end of the quality in Imari, one plate has a 1cm hairline crack and a large section has been restored. The whole surface has been over sprayed leaving a film over the surface. The dish decorated with the printed phoenix has rubbing to the flowers throughout. The plate decorated with the blue & white vase with flowers has restorations and hairline cracks throughout the rim and body. The dished scalloped example has a restored rim and hairline cracks to the body.
A large Japanese Imari scalloped charger, circa 1870/80, decorated with a mustard yellow Kirin beneath panels of geese against a karakusa and diaper ground all within a foliate scrolling border, diameter 46 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This has two 10 cm long hairline cracks to the body issuing from the rim. There is a 27 cm long by 7 cm deep patch of restoration. The gilding is rubbed throughout.
A set of four Japanese four Imari scalloped dishes, circa 1890/1900, with panels of Karakusa, foliate fronds, trellis and lozenges, the underside with underglaze blue floral band, 30 cm diameter (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The gilding to the rim to all plates is erased. Two plates have gilding erased within the main decoration against the blue ground. The plates all ring out nicely when lightly tapped there are no visible obvious chips, cracks or restorations.
Three Chinese broth dishes, 18th century, one decorated in Chinese Imari palette, with prunus and peony, another in the Famille Rose palette decorated with floral sprays and heightened with gilding, the other decorated with bamboo and fruiting finger citrus between a cell border with vignettes of scrolls of precious objects, the other decorated with lingzhi, 22 cm - 23 cm diameter, and a pair of 18th century Famille Rose plates, decorated with peony and finger citron.
A Pirkenhammer melon shaped oil lamp base, cica 1887-1890, decorated in the Imari palette on a melon shaped body supported upon a cast brass base with lion paw feet, printed marks, reservoir diameter 14 cm, overall height 18.7 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Having removed the metal mounts we can confirm that the body is free from any chips, cracks or restorations. There is some rubbing to the gilt decoration but it is 90% intact. The body rings out nicely when lightly tapped. The glaze appears to be from any issues with crazing. The metal mounts are polished and again appear to be free from any faults.
A pair of Japanese Koransha Imari shaped vases, circa 1880, with panels of pine and blossoming prunus surrounded throughout by tight chrysanthemums and a stylised phoenix against a deep red ground, blue Koransha mark, height 30 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both vases appear to be in good physical order throughout with no obvious chips, cracks, faults or restorations. One vase does have two small 3 mm /4 mm long hairline firing cracks to the foot rim but nothing further. Its partner vase is again in good order. It does have a very small blemish to the red ground of the foot rim but again this is a very small firing fault. Both vases ring out nicely when lightly tapped. The gilding on both vases is good.
A set of five Japanese Imari plates, late 17th / early 18th century, of sixteen petal scalloped form, the centre with Kakiemon style chrysanthemums against borders of iris, chrysanthemums, tight waves, karakusa and gilt chrysanthemum mons, six character mark to the underside reads "precious objects as jades and censors", diameter 24.5 cm (see illustration).
A pair of Japanese Imari chargers, circa 1890/1900, each centred with a jardiniere of flowers and framed by panels of diaper, blossoming prunus, and chrysanthemums, 31.5 cm diameter. CONDITION REPORT: The gilding is excessively rubbed to the three dark blue panels but otherwise there are no major obvious faults, cracks or chips to report.
A large Japanese Imari jardiniere, circa 1870/80, panels of chrysanthemums and wisteria within a fenced garden, interspersed by quatrefoil panels of a phoenix all on a reeded body, approximately 40 cm wide, 28.7 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There is a very small 1 cm firing chip to the rim which has been coloured and glazed. The gilding around the rim is 70% erased. The jardinière rings out nicely when tapped. No cracks or restorations.
