A VERY UNUSUAL JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD IMARI ENAMEL MAP OF JAPAN PORCELAIN CHARGER, the dish forms a typical Imari style that depicts a map of Japan, the sea highlighted with yellow enamel and styled as waves, the regions of Japan highlighted in different shades of green, brown and yellow, the reverse is enamelled green with formal foliage scrolling, with a yellow centre and a stylized mark. 36.9cm diameter.

A JAPANESE IMARI BOWL AND COVER EDO 1615-1868 The ovoid body decorated in underglaze blue, red and gilt with a continuous design of a ho-ho bird flying above rockwork, with flowering branches of prunus, peonies and chrysanthemum growing over fences, the lid decorated with a similar design of many flowers and another mythical bird, together with a fitted wood tomobako box, 13cm. (2) Provenance: gifted to the current owner in Japan in the 1970s.
A PAIR OF JAPANESE SETO WARE VASES AND COVERS 20TH CENTURY The baluster bodies decorated to one side with a flock of geese in flight above tall reeds, the reverse with further geese before a lake, the lids with similar decoration and with scroll handles, the bases signed Kawamoto Masukichi, together with a large Japanese imari jardiniere decorated in underglaze blue, iron red and gilt with panels of birds and flowers, 38.5cm max. A JAPANESE KO-IMARI BLUE AND WHITE JAR C.1680 The bulbous body decorated in dark underglaze blue with a continuous design of a mountainous river landscape, with sailboats to the fore and houses in the distance, the shoulder and neck with bands of lappets and formal clouds, with three concentric lines above the foot, 26.5cm. Cf. B Davies Oriental Art, Ko-Imari porcelain from the collection of Oliver Impey, p.48 no.21, for another jar with similar decoration.
