An early 19th century English porcelain part dessert service comprising four oval platters (34.5cm wide and three smaller)) three smaller oval platters, 10 x 22cm and 10 x 19cm side plates,a quatrefoil-shaped dish with handle. Each piece decorated with gilding, cobalt-blues, iron-oxide reds and other colours in the Imari palette and depicting various flowers (25 pieces)Condition report - Box one contains an oval platter 34.5cm wide and is not perfect. The piece has broken into 5-7 pieces and has been, in the Auctioneer's opinion, has been repaired badly (see reverse picture of this to corroborate). The second piece is a quatre-foil shaped dish with handle (22.25cm wide) by contrast quite reasonable with some kiln dirt in the glaze as expected, a small firing crack around the handle which looks as though it is a firing crack and not a hairline (see close up). Also a firing crack to the underside of the foot about 2 cms (see close up). Some scratching and marking to the underside as expected commensurate with age. Looking at the Imari-style gilding - not too bad/not too prevalent wear noted. Also in this box are three matching oval platters - 1st in good original condition with no chips, cracks or restorations noted and colours fairly bright. The 2nd oval dish has rubbing to the top of the border and there are some minor pieces of paintwork away to the flowers. The underside shows some kiln grit in the glazing but no major problems noted. The 3rd oval dish pretty good overall with no major problems gilding or painting-wise but looking at the underside there is some kiln grit in the glaze and some scratching but no chips or cracksBox two contains saucer, dishes and side plates etc. and there are ten matching which are 19cms diameter and on inspection the first and second have some scratching, third good, fourth good, fifth has 1-inch hairline emanating from the lip to the foot and is visible mostly from the underside, sixth good, seventh has a bad breakage - two pieces are away from the edge (each 6cms wide) and re-affixed, eighth has two or three hairlines, a star crack on the base and further restorations, the ninth in good condition save for some scraping of the glazing to the underside of the foot in the middle, the last plate is a similar report with a small 1.5cm firing crack about a one cm away from the raised foot and only visible from the underside. There is another batch of ten circular dishes which are are matching and these are approx. 22cm and going through the first exhibits rubbing to the decoration and the surface and also to the gilt border which is virtually non-existent but the underside is in reasonable condition. Second has slightly better gilding but still rubbing around the edge some surface scratching to paintwork some kiln grit to the underside in the glaze. Third has a slight firing fault to the underside of thefoot but the gilding around the edge is good. Fourth is worn around the edge and there are areas of glazing and paintwork away very prevalent from the actual decoration on top although the underside looks reasonable. Fifth has reasonable gilding and decoration although on the underside there is a 3-inch star crack emanating from the centre of the underside of the foot. Sixth looks pretty reasonable but there is some gilding away from the border the decoration of flowers looks reasonable so minor surface scratching etc. although particularly disturbing. Seventh sadly has a 2-inch hairline visible from the top and underside emanating from the edge of the rim towards the foot, there is some rubbing on that plate also and gilding away. Eighth is in reasonable condition although there is a small 1cm hairline to the underside near the foot but this is not noticeable from the top so may just be from the original firing. Ninth has a 1-inch hairline coming in from the outside towards the foot, some of the glaze is heaping and piling on this one, gilt-wise it is not too bad around the edges and the decoration of the flowers is not too bad. The last plate again has some discolouration to the underside with kiln grit etc. although the gilt border looks reasonable there is gilding away in some areas and the painting looks reasonable also.
