A PAIR OF OCTAGONAL IMARI PORCELAIN CHARGERS, MEIJIJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912)Each of octagonal form, with shallow sides and everted rim, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze green, iron-red and gold on the interior with a bird's-eye view of a landscape, as seen from atop a roof, depicting part of the roof itself, along with vibrant clouds, a serene sea with two boats beneath it, and mountains adorned with pines in the distance; surrounded by a floral-diaper border at the rim. The exterior with stylized mountains above a band of superposed arches.Condition: Overall good condition with some firing flaws such as dark spots, fritting to rims, shallow surface scratches, minor wear, and abrasions to gilt. The upper rims with few small chips. Provenance: Danish private collection, acquired at Bruun Rasmussen on 3 September 2009, lot 936.
