Porzellane mit vergoldeter Zier, sogenanntem Kinrande- („Goldbrokat“-) Dekor sind eine chinesische Entwicklung der späten Ming Dynastie und haben mit dem Zustrom chinesischer Handwerker und Technologien am Ende der Mingzeit im 17. Jahrhundert Eingang in die japanische Keramikkunst gefunden. Speziell im barocken Europa beliebt (August der Starke war ein bedeutender Sammler solcher Stücke), waren Kinrandeporzellane mit frischen Dekorelementen auch in der Meijizeit (1868-1911) noch sehr geschätzte Exportgüter und haben, wie auch an diesem Stück ersichtlich, Anstöße zur Entwicklung des Jugendstils geliefert.
