(29.2cm.) high; together with three Japanese Imari plates, two with typical floral and foliate reserves, the other with geese in flight over a lake landscape, the largest 9 7/8in. (25.1cm.) diameter. Each scalloped dish moulded to the cavetto with tulip-shaped reserves painted with floral sprays, the well decorated in iron-red and gold with figures on a boat on a secluded lake amongst mountains and trees, the reverse painted with two floral sprays, age wear, one with fritting, hairline crack to the well, minor rim chips, gilt loss, the other with fritting, restoration, gilt loss, minor rim chips the larger 27,5cm diameter (2) “Melk en Bloed”, translating to “Milk and Blood,” is a Dutch term given to export porcelain decorated in iron-red and gold on a white ground. These wares were imported to the Netherlands for a short period during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, 1662 – 1722. Milk and Blood was the forerunner of Chinese Imari which was created with the addition of underglaze-blue, a design adopted from the Japanese. Not only did Milk and Blood describe the colour of the porcelain, but also related to a Dutch and low-German idiom that describes a radiant and healthy-looking face as “a face like milk and blood”, echoing the bold appearance of the porcelain.

A SET OF SIX EARLY 19TH CENTURY SPODE TEA CUPS AND SEVEN MATCHING SAUCERS, decorated in the Imari palette with an arched roof building in a garden, pieces marked 'SPODE' in iron red, together with an early 19th Century Spode tea cup, pattern No.868 and three early 19th Century porcelain dessert plates, Imari vase of flowers decoration, approximate diameter 21cm (17) Condition Report - Six saucers are in good condition and one has a small firing fault on the underside of the rim, there is also some light scratching and wear to the gilding. Four cups are in good condition other than light wear to the gilding, one has a pale blue patch in the glaze to the interior and one cup has a hairline crack, not very visible even under UV light. The other cup that does'nt belong to the set also sounds as though there may be a hairline but we couln't find one even under UV light. All cups have very light wear to gilding especially to the handles. the three plates are unmarked, all seem to be in good condition and have a small amount of wear to the gilding.

Diameter 11cm. Finial has wear to the gilding, small area of restoration above oval piercing and also some stained cracks in the same area. Glaze faults and staining to underside of cover.
