Binns, the story of the origin of the name comes from John Thorneloe, one of the original partners in The Worcester Porcelain Company, who went to Mullion in Cornwall to search for soapstone, finding no accommodation, he was invited to stay with Renatus Kempthorne, a local gentleman who would accept no payment for several weeks. In return Thorneloe is said to have had a special service made and sent to him using the soaprock he procured. A nice story, probably based on some facts.
