Roestraten visted England during the reign of Charles II. It is thought that Sir Peter Lely introduced him to the King. While in England, Roestraten moved away from the peasant genre scenes of his early career and, instead, developed a new style of still-life often including precious china, silver, ivory and lacquerware in his works. He became very successful in England and his paintings can be found in the Royal Collections at Buckingham Palace and Hampton Court.Part proceeds to benefit The Wallace Collection

Royal Crown Derby Imari pattern twenty-nine piece part tea set comprising milk jug, sugar bowl, ten tea cups, eleven saucers and six side plates. Most cups 9cm wide, three are 10cm.Sugar bowl is 14cm.One cup handle has been poorly restored. all others appear well. Minor paint wear in places. One plate has large restored area. Paint is rubbed in places. Two chips to foot rim of cream jug. Please see images for details.Milk jug - chip to the base.Cups - big repair to the handle, hairline cracks to a few others.Saucers and plates - some rubbing to the paintwork, no evident damage.They do not all have the same backstamps.Two teacups are different stamps.Surface scratching - on piece is damaged
